Dunk ...... your wish is my command ..... took these a few minutes ago .....

you can stack the marumis ...... which creates a very impressive block of glass to screw onto the 24-90 to make it look even more fearsome ......  lens edges creep into the corners at 50mm and below .....

several images ...... first is with 24-90 alone at 90mm at closest distance .......

first 2 were at iso 800, about f16 and hand held at 1/125

the last were iso 50 and handheld at f4 ....... and this is a 100% crop of the last image ..... some sharpening, virtually no NR.

Thank you … that's impressive.

Another worthwhile experiment would be to set up a ruler on a copy stand and focus as close as possible at e.g. 90mm and 50mm focal length zoom settings.

If length of ruler visible in image = L,  then magnification possible with c/u lenses on the 36mm FF width, is equal to 36/L

e.g. if 72mm length of ruler visible at closest distance, then magnification = 36/72 = 0.5 or 1:2 or ½

With the stacked c/u lenses at 90mm, looks as if magnification is approx 1:2 i.e. 1/2 life size … assuming the width of the quartz crystals is approx 2cm.

If so, i.e. 0.5 mag. achievable, that's as good as some marque macro lenses.

But two new Marumi c/u lenses would cost maybe £140 … whereas it's possible to buy e.g. a s/h Canon FD 100mm macro lens for less … and it would adapt to the SL very easily via an FD to Leica M and an M to T adaptors … BUT … the Canon FD macro lens is not AF and no lens EXIF data would be recorded.

I've been very impressed with the continuous autofocus and motor drive with 24/90.  All shots in this series were sharply focused on the dog's face.  I captured the focus first shot then fired away using high and medium speed drive.  Made about 100 exposures and the vast majority were keepers.  Set on T mode, 1/1600 sec at f/4 racked out to 90mm.  ISO 160.  This is a crop of about 1/4th of the frame.

I'm very pleased with the colors and detail in this one. The colors of the blossoms are all true to life.

Are these the 77mm Marumi Achromatic Macro +3 and +5 screw-on lenses?  With a 82 to 77mm step-down ring, right?

Peter
