I was hoping if someone with the newer M-P 240 tried out the Really Right Stuff BM240 set, L plate and grip. It seems to work very well with the M240 but something about placement of a magnet in the MP 240 making this setup incompatible where the camera will not turn on once mounted in place. Just wondering if this is really true since I cannot find real world experiences with the MP 240.  Otherwise, it seems that Arca Swiss has a universal L bracket that may fit. Thanks.

Bought and installed the RRS grip with 'L bracket' the same day I got the M-P and have never had the slightest problem………….don't know anything about any magnet getting in the way, but the RRS component being non-ferrous, i,e, anodized aluminum, with stainless steel hardware hasn't and wouldn't pose a problem in trhat regard anyway. As an added bonus, the RRS baseplate is far stronger, better made and useful than the OEM item.

After many years of using the RRS grip / L-bracket on a variety of bodies, it has been my " real world experience" thatI the RRS grip is the only way to go. It goes without saying that  the grip / bracket will only be as effective and useful as it's designed to be when combined with the with the correct RRS QR plate on your tripod / RRS ballhead.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I have their L bracket and quick release plate for my Canon 5DMK3 and it is fantastic. I'm looking forward to get this for my MP 240. BTW, I notice some tape on the edges of your camera. Just for general protection, or does the bracket rub on the sides of the camera?

The grip and bracket do not rub against the camera anywhere, the tape effectively keeps the leather strap from rubbing against the body & polishing the chrome finish, which has happened on several older chrome Leica bodies I've owned.

I know it's ugly as Hell, but this is a hard-working kit of camera & lenses, not a fashion accessory, but yet I hate to see wear and tear on my equipment.

I have the RRS L bracket and grip as well, it is very well made and fits the M-P perfectly with no issues. But it does fit the RRS QR clamp much better than other Arca Swiss clamps I have tried especially Gitzo.

+1 on RRS L-plate for M240 (M-P). I did have a slight problem on the one for my M8.2 which may be the problem the OP is refering to. Sometimes when installing the plate on older models of M the little nubbin which tells the camera the bottom plate is on the camera, IOW it turns off the warning that the bottom plate is off, will not communicate properly and the plate must be pulled off and re-installed. I suspect the camera is a bit sensitive here and  a repeat of the process usually completes the circuit correctly.

Strangely their web site still says

"This plate is not compatible with the Leica M-P. Since the magnet on the M-P is located in a different location, this plate will not trigger the camera to turn on"

But I see that people are having no problems.

^ The same message appears on the RRS website about the M246, both have made me hold off getting their L Plate.

Anyone also using it successfully with M246?

Just got this baseplate for my M-P 240 based on personal experience here as well as a few other people sharing their opinions. It works very well on the newer M-P 240 with NO issues. Not sure either why the RRS website indicates the contrary. Hopefully they will update it.

I can't recommend the w inch universal bracket from promediagear enough:

It's brilliantly made, light, comes with spares, and will fit your next camera and the one after...  this seems to me a great solution as it will fit many cameras.  I use mine for landscape shooting on a Gitzo tripod and having tried the Arca Swiss and the RRS find this easily as good, if not better.
