chris_tribble Posted August 10, 2016 Share #1021 Posted August 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Clearly the silly season prevails... Going back to the topic, I'm still wrestling with the conundrum of what best to spend the budget I've set aside for camera equipment expenses for next year. Assumptions are that I can sell my two M240s for around £2500 each (they're in excellent condition - so maybe a bit more). This will give me a £5-6K to add to the 5K I've set aside, giving me a budget the business can afford of around £10K or maybe a bit more. Even with the horrible low Pound after the Brexit debacle, I'm hoping that the new M won't come in at over £5K new - so one solution is to hang on, get two new M bodies and keep on trucking. All of this is of course on the assumption that the new M has as good performance as the current one + improved EVF, quieter shutter and improved ISO. If the new M doesn't have these features, then I'm back to hanging on to what is looking like a classic of its kind - and one which will give me several more years of steady use, and use the budget for this year to get an SL. I know that speculation is a self indulgence and that I'm fortunate to have what is overall a fine camera. The delights of the M240 remain for me the overall functionality of the superb RF system, the quality of the files the camera gives me across all the ISO ranges I use, and the USEABLE Live View system. The disappointment has been the sub-standard EVF - but I have learned to live with this limitation... And so we wait...
Advertisement Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
keithlaban.co.uk Posted August 11, 2016 Share #1022 Posted August 11, 2016 It seems from posts here by those who should be in the know that it's unlikely there will be a new M (rangefinder) announced at Photokina or indeed this year. I'm just wondering if instead there will be a new camera similar in form to the Q only with interchangeable lenses and an SL like sensor and EVF? Such a camera would certainly get my attention. Just wondering...
Giulio Zanni Posted August 11, 2016 Share #1023 Posted August 11, 2016 The Language and Pasta posts have been moved into their own thread in Barnack's Bar As there will be no new M at the next Photokina I find pasta more interesting than speculations :-)

At the time the Q was announced, Leica advised the 28mm lens FF compact came 'first' because it could be furnished with the most compact lens … as if a 35mm and /or 50mm versions might follow if such compact lenses could be designed But there have been no firm hints about follow-on Q variants with longer focal length 'fixed' lenses. dunk

ralphh Posted August 11, 2016 Share #1026 Posted August 11, 2016 A 50mm Q would probably be every camera I ever needed. I'd have to think hard about that. I would certainly have to head up to the leica store for a play. So long as the lens didn't end up the size of a bean can. A 50mm Summarit would be nice

Nick Bedford Posted August 12, 2016 Share #1028 Posted August 12, 2016 All I know is that the M should remain a true manual focus optical rangefinder. If the M became something it's not, I would be very sad. No other company makes a true digital rangefinder, let's not make that "no company makes a digital rangefinder". ski542002 Posted August 12, 2016 Share #1030 Posted August 12, 2016 Il will be a true digital rangefinder when it has a true digital rangefinder Had the M9 & M240. Now use my M lenses on the SL and love the combo. A digital rangefinder vs. optical rangefinder? More accurate, maybe a larger rangefinder patch aiding tele-lens focusing accuracy(?), no worries about getting knocked out of alignment. I say, bring it on. If it's a stellar upgrade, I'd consider another "rangefinder" Leica to supplement the SL.

edwardkaraa Posted August 12, 2016 Share #1035 Posted August 12, 2016 I'm actually not very keen on a larger screen. The current one is large enough and there is barely space to hold the camera. I can't imagine how would it be with a larger screen. Ymmv.

edwardkaraa Posted August 12, 2016 Share #1039 Posted August 12, 2016 larger [touch] screen fewer buttons ? Eventhough it makes a lot of sense with the T, I don't see it happening with the M. I would rather wait for the M-D mark II.
Exodies Posted August 12, 2016 Share #1040 Posted August 12, 2016 If computer controlled manufacture took over and there were no retooling costs, molds to make, etc. would new cameras appear more frequently, would the manufacturers revenue increase? Could every customer have exactly what she wanted with no deleterious effect on profit; by which I mean she would buy a new one at the same frequency as before. Or would we each be stuck in a hole dug by the feebleness of our imaginations?
