New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.

If they made the body thinner and maintained the same flange-sensor distance with a protruding lens flange; it would be possible to swap the flange and introduce a M-mount lens turret  ;)

Maintaining the rangefinder coupling with such a design would be a nightmare. I don’t believe Leica will go that route.

A slimmer body would allow for close focus with M lenses a-la-Sony. Brilliant.

Why? The register distance remains the same, and focusing action and range of the lens remains the same. How does close focus come about?

Makes some room for a close focus adapter like the Voigtlander VM-E for instance. This way one can focus down to 50cm with a 50mm lens & 20cm with a 28mm lens more or lens.

I see, and such an adapter does not fit on an M(240)?

So you can take close up images, but only using the EVF (presumably) - parallax would make the optical viewfinder unusable?

I use the M macro adapter, but only with the SL (the M60 doesn't have live view).  As I understand it the M-macro adapter works just fine with the M(240) ... or do I have the wrong end of the stick?

I wonder if the Canon and Nikon user groups talk about making their cameras slimmer.

I like an M with a solid strong body. I cannot see this shape in de Sony body....

Well i'm not a Sony rep but my A7s mod feels as strong as my M240 i must say. Its body is just slimmer but its ergonomics (besides the messy menu) are almost perfect for me whilst i need a Thumbs Up for the M240. YMMV.

No new M until next year

Oh? I thought one would present itself this year , right after or on the Photokina?  You know "10 year digital Leica camera" is a good reason and there are some other signs ( but not really facts- everybody is keeping his mouth shut, or doesn't belong to it's inner circle-  just like: " After the Photokine it will be an adventure..." )

But the rubber covering often falls off...;)

Well, I have had it get unstuck from two NEX cameras in a row, I doubt the A7 is significantly better ;) On the second one i gave up and Superglued it back. It is still hanging in there, but it could look nicer.

Not sure if you missed what i wrote above but if my modest experience is of any interest to you, the leatherette of my M240 looks nicer but much more fragile that the rubber covering of my A7s mod.  FWIW.

Maybe it has to do with user conditions; the rubber I refer to looks rather robust as well, but the adhesion to the body is the problem especially in very hot conditions with quite sweaty hands.
