wlaidlaw Posted January 22, 2016 Share #82 Posted January 22, 2016 You can trigger magnification with your right thumb by pushing on the joystick, when in manual focus mode. This appeared on the latest firmware (file name 601__12_.fu)
thighslapper Posted January 22, 2016 Share #83 Posted January 22, 2016 Yes ...... when a manual lens is detected the joystick is configured bring up full magnification with a short press ..... with or without peaking depending on what you have set. Can be done with a thumb easily ....... reverts to normal view when you press the shutter. The magnified area is the centre of the image by default ....... you can move the focus point after you zoom in if you wish ..... After you take the image a thumb press on the UR button brings up the photo and joystick press toggles a magnified view again to check if focus is correct ...... so it is all quite logical and simple. Makes manual use very easy and it's a pleasure to use M & R lenses...... focussing is also very accurate.
ramarren Posted January 22, 2016 Share #84 Posted January 22, 2016 Is there any solution to the original problem of this thread? "How to trigger image magnification by the right thumb?" I would really like to use the upper right buttom for this.... There is no capability included to remap the short press functions of the four main buttons to other locations, so magnification assist must remain located on the BL button. With SL firmware v1.2 installed, when using an adapted lens you can jump from normal view to 100% magnification (and back) for focusing by pressing the joystick button with your thumb. (This does not work for the SL 24-90 and presumably other dedicated lenses—SL and T—because with those lenses fitted, the joystick button can be configured for various AF and AE functions which are not relevant to adapted manual lenses.) lct Posted January 22, 2016 Author Share #85 Posted January 22, 2016 I have two buttons for that, near the right thumb & near the shutter release. Perfect for me but i did not buy the SL (Sony A7s mod) sorry. Next time perhaps but Leica would have to change its ergonomics philosophy i suspect so i don't hold my breath. IkarusJohn Posted January 27, 2016 Share #86 Posted January 27, 2016 I use the magnification button rarely (I have one R lens and a 2x Extender, and 10 M mount lenses) as the EVF is very good for focusing without magnification. The subject also needs to be reasonably static to bother with magnification. That said, pressing the joystick is easy and convenient as it's right next to the thumb. Kudos to Leica for listening to the comments following the release of the camera, and for addressing the issue in the first firmware update. I finally picked up my replacement camera yesterday (returning the shop demo), attached the screen protector, fitted the leather strap (very nice) and unpacked my new Peak Design Everyday Messenger bag. Very happy.
