jjk Posted October 23, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seems there is always alot of talk about new features for the M. I now have 4 for film and 4 digital. What I would really like is a zoom. Currently my VLux fills that need. Here comes the SL. A 28-90 zoom now and a 80-280 next year. Now that the M has live view and the top mount EVF, why not a zoom. JK

bocaburger Posted October 23, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2015 Zooms from Leica ® and several other brands can be used on the M240. The WATE is mechanically a true zoom IIRC (not the MATE). I can see why it might not work out well for Leica to make an M-mount zoom, because it could only be used practically on the M240-series at present, which represents only a portion of M-mount users. luigi bertolotti Posted October 23, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 23, 2015 A zoom in M Mount would be a costly lens : by defintion, and also for it ought to be an excellent lens in comparision with the R zooms that are not rare in the user market ; bottom line : it would sell few numbers; they have just announced their camera for zooms... Mornnb Posted October 24, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm sure you could use some old R zooms for Nikon zooms that have an on lens aperture control. It is not as if a M mount lens for 200mm is going to be much smaller than an SLR lens. Actually an interesting question is does the SL 90-280mm have a manual aperture control? MarkP Posted October 24, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 24, 2015 Buy a second hand 4.0/80-200 Vario-Elmar-R or similar, and perhaps an APO-Extender and you're set to go. Much cheaper than a new M zoom which could't be justified as it could only be framed and focused with the EVF.
