mirekti Posted January 8, 2016 Author Share #61 Posted January 8, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received a notice the flash is available at B&H. Bad timing as I just returned from vacation where I wanted to use it's HSS function. I guess I'll put it on hold for now and see what others report. Martin Fagerås Posted January 8, 2016 Share #62 Posted January 8, 2016 just got notice from the local Leica retailer here in Oslo, Norway that my SF40 preorder is in stock and can be picked up. I'll probably go and collect it tomorrow
mirekti Posted January 9, 2016 Author Share #63 Posted January 9, 2016 Is there an SF40 manual for download?
Martin Fagerås Posted January 9, 2016 Share #64 Posted January 9, 2016 Since i had a hard time finding pictures of this flash, other than the straight from the front product pictures, i'll post some pictures of the flash alone, and on the Q so people can get a better impression of how it looks, and how big it is I'm very happy with it so far, nice size and weight, seems absolutely capable and powerful enough for most scenarios when i have the Q with me. terrycym Posted January 11, 2016 Share #66 Posted January 11, 2016 I have found next to no information on this flash on the Leica web sites other than the fact it exists It's basically a Nissin i40 and the manual for that is here... http://www.nissindigital.com/download.html

Peter Kilmister Posted January 11, 2016 Share #69 Posted January 11, 2016 If the SF 40 is a rebadged Nissin i40, is there one of Nissin's own models that is suitable for use on an M240?
terrycym Posted January 11, 2016 Share #70 Posted January 11, 2016 All the Nissin variants are camera specific
ayewing Posted January 11, 2016 Share #71 Posted January 11, 2016 If the SF 40 is a rebadged Nissin i40, is there one of Nissin's own models that is suitable for use on an M240? I have the Nissin i40 in the version for Olympus/Panasonic which also works with the Panasonic Leicas - I use it with my D-Lux 109 as well as with my Olympus gear. It is not compatible with the Leica M, X and T models as they use the Leica flash system. Unfortunately Nissin do not supply a model for the Leica M which is a pity as they cost about twice as much in the rebadged Leica M version.
cirke Posted January 11, 2016 Share #72 Posted January 11, 2016 Unfortunately Nissin do not supply a model for the Leica M which is a pity as they cost about twice as much in the rebadged Leica M version. And they dont even answer to emails
Mark Pope Posted January 11, 2016 Share #73 Posted January 11, 2016 I've just ordered one. judging by the controls on the back, it doesn't look to hard to use, which is just as well if there's no manual with the flash!
mirekti Posted January 11, 2016 Author Share #74 Posted January 11, 2016 Anyone, if you get a chance please upload a sample of HSS in use.I'd really like to see how it handles the daylight and higher shutter speeds.
cirke Posted January 11, 2016 Share #75 Posted January 11, 2016 HSS works perfectly on the M240
Peter Kilmister Posted January 11, 2016 Share #76 Posted January 11, 2016 How long before Nissin sees a marketing opportunity? Maybe they have signed a non-competitive deal with Leica?
mexipike Posted January 12, 2016 Share #77 Posted January 12, 2016 Still would really love if this flash works in TTL mode with a leica monochrom m9 version, if any of you who are trying can find one to test it out on that would be awesome!
kkonkkrete Posted January 12, 2016 Share #78 Posted January 12, 2016 HSS works perfectly on the M240 Wait, does this mean it can sync at fast shutter speeds (beyond the usual 1/125, or whatever)? Sorry for the newbie question, I'm not familiar with 'HSS'.
terrycym Posted January 12, 2016 Share #79 Posted January 12, 2016 Page 15 of the i40 manual mentioned earlier refers to HSS as does page 194 of the Leica M manual
