That doesn't sound good, but then when I looked at the linked page, at ISO 100, it looks as good as the A7 and better than the D750; ISO50 does look a bit soft.

Am I missing something?

Finally waded my way through Sean Reid's review (it's mid-afternoon, and I feel like a stiff drink!)

There's a lot about what Sean writes that I find somewhat annoying - making up new names and acronyms for cameras (window finder?  rangefinder or CRF would be more accurate, EFC?) and his fixation on auto-aperture-stop-down.  On the last, he comments that it's the most accurate way of focusing an SLR, and if it wasn't Canon, Nikon and others wouldn't continue to use it.  Well, I'm not so sure about that.

The purely optical single lens reflex through the lens mirror box and prism is fantastic wide open, but not so much stopped down - I don't have an SLR anymore, but I do recall trying to focus lenses stopped down through an SLR and I found it a nightmare.  As a good EVF adjusts for light hitting the sensor, this isn't so much of a problem with the EVFs I've used.

Those niggles aside, Sean's introductory review is really good, and worth subscribing to (if you can put aside your frustration over the truly horrible site).  His introduction on using M & R lenses is just that - an introduction.  Hopefully he will post something better on the M & R lenses soon.

Everything I've read and seen so far suggests that the SL sensor is a shade better than the M(240) sensor (nothing we didn't know - the Q is also slightly better) and the 24-90 zoom is really very good; really good.

Cheers

John

Meanwhile, Lloyd confirms that the SL does not have EFC (Electronic First Curtain) shutter.

Disappointing.

I read somewhere that it is in a forthcoming firmware update.  Sorry, I've read so much in the past 3-4 days that I can't remember where I saw that.

That's nice to know - it's one of my minuses for the SL. Please post again if you trace the source. TIA
