IkarusJohn Posted November 19, 2015 Share #83 Posted November 19, 2015 Steve Huff has posted his first look at the Sl. It isn't worth reading.
IkarusJohn Posted November 20, 2015 Share #84 Posted November 20, 2015 Actually, I watched the video and he eats his words. This camera ROCKS! You can guess the rest. The video is interesting for the size comparisons. That Zeiss 35/1.4 is massive!
Guest Posted November 22, 2015 Share #85 Posted November 22, 2015 Second part of Kristian Dowling's review. Well worth reading. Interesting on the 24-90 lens. http://kristiandowling.com/blog/2015/11/6/the-leica-sl-type-601-review-performance-part-

Bill Livingston Posted November 30, 2015 Share #91 Posted November 30, 2015 Thank you. Looks very good, he seems particularly positive about the lens... When you start the section with 'the performance of the lens is beyond comment' and then go on to say that, as a reviewer, it is very frustrating not to find anything to criticise...! Thank you for posting.
jaapv Posted November 30, 2015 Share #92 Posted November 30, 2015 I think Erwin frontfocused ever so slightly in that DMR shot.

dgktkr Posted December 1, 2015 Share #95 Posted December 1, 2015 And it may not be a fair comparison. It appears to me that more aggressive sharpening has been applied to the SL shot: the dark eyelashes on the subject's right eye seem to have bright halos and the bright hair stands in the upper right of the shot seem to have dark halos. dgktkr I think Erwin frontfocused ever so slightly in that DMR shot. ericborgstrom Posted December 1, 2015 Share #96 Posted December 1, 2015 .... the dark eyelashes on the subject's right eye seem to have bright halos and the bright hair stands in the upper right of the shot seem to have dark halos. dgktkr Makeup on the eyelid? Now we are into pixel peeping! And thank Erwin for, again, an insightful article. Eric
Peter Walker Posted December 1, 2015 Share #97 Posted December 1, 2015 Interesting. Steve Huff went from: "I am a bit let down this time from Leica" and "Sony A7 copy" to: Camera of the Year 2015! Full credit for publicly admitting that his first impression was wrong. Apparently his view changed the moment that he touched a real one. With me, I was already quite keen on the camera but, when I touched one, it was no longer an option - I had to have it. Would have sold my kidneys if necessary. Which makes me wonder: Has Leica laced the black finish with some kind of mind-altering, skin-penetrating drug? I will leave you all to ponder that while I go fondle my SL for a while... CheshireCat Posted December 1, 2015 Share #98 Posted December 1, 2015 Which makes me wonder: Has Leica laced the black finish with some kind of mind-altering, skin-penetrating drug? That is not the case. His SCD-1 ("Spirit Communication Device") would have detected mind-alteration immediately.
jrp Posted December 1, 2015 Share #99 Posted December 1, 2015 There are some technical findings (read noise, field pattern noise, etc) here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3932268 I don't pretend to know what to make of them...
IkarusJohn Posted December 1, 2015 Share #100 Posted December 1, 2015 There's a review of the SL with 50mm lenses up on Reid Reviews. Whenever I log onto his page, I think to myself, never again. Then I see the lens he's testing is an out of production LTM Cosina Voigtlander Colour Skopar f/2.5 50mm lens, and I think why bother? I want to know how the SL performs with current Leica lenses, not $300 secondhand out of production Voigtlanders, or Zeiss or any other third party lens manufacturer's products. I want to know what happens with Leica's current lenses. The second lens is the CV f/1.5 Nokton ... ho hum. If I thought I could get a refund, I'd cancel my subscription ...
