Schrödinger's cat Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Aside from the close focusing adapter being a different design, what is the difference between the version with the eyes and the version with the extension type device? Advertisement Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Hi Schrödinger's cat, Take a look here Different 90mm f4 macros. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted October 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2015 None. The aperture ring on the new version is slightly a larger diameter. The eyes are no longer required due to live view/EVF. The eyes can be removed from the adapter. The hood can be reversed and attached on the previous version. On the new one it cannot. I happen to know where you can get a nice one. I happen to know where you can get a nice one. I bet you do. Problem is, I doubt that I would ever use the close focusing adapter, certainly would never use the accessory finder. I'm trying to get just the lens so I can replace my 90mm f4 Elmar-C. Mostly I just need a good 90.
microview Posted October 17, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2015 Well you can buy just the lens: the adapter is sold/packaged separately. No good for cameras without the live view option if you intended to take macro images, of course. It's a very nice 90f4 but the 90APOf2 is I think a better lens: problem there is size and weight. MarkP Posted October 17, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2015 The APO-90 is a different lens, not a better lens. Puts himself considers the 4.0/90 Macro-Elmar one of Leica's best M-lenses. What it loses in 2 stops it more than makes up for in compactness, light weight and image quality. I find there are easily another 1-2 stops of hand-holdability with this small and light lens. I rarely use the supplied hood but I usually use the small screw-in hood from the 2.8/50 Elmar-M collapsible which is more than adequate to protect and control flare in this relatively flare-free lens. 230gm vs 660gm in weight ...and a stellar performer compared to the old 4.0/90 Elmar-C. The OP is already using a relatively compact f4 90mm lens and so is obvioulsly used to the maximum aperture. My take on it from a while ago: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/175185-in-praise-of-the-4090-macro-elmar-m/
luigi bertolotti Posted October 19, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2015 I bet you do. Mostly I just need a good 90. If you see f4 as a bit of limitation, may I suggest to consider the Summarit ? I have the 75, and is a superb performer, with a weight/size that is excellent : 90 is in the same league... and is less costly than the Elmar.
