There is a room in the back of my house which is mostly occupied by plants during the winter months. This morning when I ventured back there I saw this Begonia flower that had fallen to the floor and was backlit by sunlight. It seemed to be begging to be photographed.

Brent,

wow! - big print for this excellent work! :)

There is only one thing I would like to mention about the luminance of the glowing red color. One can only view this on the inferior compressed size on an average monitor. But you can try to reduce the luminance a little bit of the red in favour of bringing out even more texture there. This could perhaps make this photo even more subtle. Red is always tricky and a great challenge with its warm glow.

Thank you, Iduna. I've worked on the image again using your suggestion to reduce the red luminance. The result is a deepening of the red which isn't an accurate rendition of the flower. The actual color of the flower was a translucent pinkish red. You are quite right about red being a tricky color to work with. What do you think?

Brent,

oh yes, for me the second version is better in terms of texture.

You mentioned a visionary pinkish cast. Pink has also a kind of blue hue, which you can achieve working on the red separately and try to make it a bit cooler. You know, this is much trouble but if you want to bring out what was in your mind one can bring this out if your histogram did show no clipping of highlights. In these operations one can learn a lot in pp. - But do not worry, this picture is fine enough now, great job you did.
