stevieg Posted October 12, 2015 Share #1  Posted October 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure if this is the veiling flare that folks talk about but this evening, whilst enjoying a lovely Peak District sunset, a number of images have what seems to be inverted images of the sun "reflected" lower in the picture (near to the sheep). stevieg Posted October 12, 2015 Author Share #2  Posted October 12, 2015 It is one sharp lens though, as what I thought were dust spots, turned out to be migrating birds! wattsy Posted October 12, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted October 12, 2015 Not sure if this is the veiling flare that folks talk about but this evening, whilst enjoying a lovely Peak District sunset, a number of images have what seems to be inverted images of the sun "reflected" lower in the picture (near to the sheep). Any ideas? Â No, the veiling glare is a general loss of contrast across a wider area. The blob of 'flare' in your photo looks more like a reflection of the sun off of the sensor (and then back off the lens) or something like that. Â I have a similar example, although a different lens (35 Summicron), different medium (film) and at a different time of the day (dawn). Must be something to do with sheep. TomB_tx Posted October 12, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted October 12, 2015 Did you have a filter on the lens? That is a common source of such reflections.
stevieg Posted October 12, 2015 Author Share #6 Â Posted October 12, 2015 No filter, just a hand held shot. Â @wattsy: Can't get my head round the "sheep" connection, though. ("mutton flare?")Â

MarkP Posted October 22, 2015 Share #8 Â Posted October 22, 2015 And here are examples of veiling flare specific to the APO-50 which tend to be primarily in the centre of the image.
