TK! Posted October 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I gave up with OpenSource-Tools and had a try with Lightroom. But I am still not happy with the colours. I use the standard setting, import the DNGs and export the JPEGs, attached you find an example. The original traffic sign was straight red but in the picture I see a lot of purple. What could be the reason? My eyes, my display monitor, Lightroom presets... sturkel Posted October 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2015 I do suspect your monitor calibration as I look at this image while not a bright red, I do not see purple on my calibrated monitor. If you do not calibrate your monitor you are always at risk if you intend to send images for any type of post production. Something to consider. I mean darktable, rawtherapee, ufraw, etc. They manage the images in completely different way. I started with darktable but then I tried rawtherapee and it's way superior. I had some examples I took, I have to see where I've put them. Also, as wrote above, you have to check the calibration of your monitor. Keep in mind the image it's shown differently in the monitors, your camera, your computer, and so on. Even more if you print it up. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

wda Posted October 12, 2015 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2015 In LR Develop module, select 'W' and place the sampler tool on the grey stripe shown on the sign in your picture and CLICK. Then click 'Y' to see a before and after picture. (Check the RGB figures before and after. They should be identical or numerically close to each other) That will get you close to neutrality provided the grey appoached neutrality itself. In practice, consider using a greycard when shooting and using the above proceduce, sample the greycard to remove colour contamination. Screen - you are colour conscious so do explore screen rcalibration. Mine is recalibrated every 200 hours (my choice of interval). Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Seems I need to invest some time here... :-) When I look into the details of installation I find Lightroom 6.0 with Camera Raw 9.0 This version is too old I think. Hopefully I can get an update through the Leica site. This will be my next step. And then let's see... - TK! (I will retry with OpenSource ... promised. sumolux Posted October 14, 2015 Share #10 Posted October 14, 2015 We are all accustomed to Lightroom, so it is hard to step back and take a different direction. Personally, I found a lot of issues were conversion issues into Lightroom after I changed over the Capture 1. It might not be suitable for you, however, you can download it and give it a run for free. Its conversion engine is worth a try, pictures come 'out of the box' already looking much better form the start in my view. Saves me 'Lightroom fiddling'.
