The 109 six months on. My long term review

A valid argument some years ago but many brands have improved their finest setting jpeg output to the point that many are now just as good or better than the same camera's raw converted to jpeg.   I know of a number of pro photographers who, very confidently, only shoot jpeg. Particularly busy wedding photographers and photojournalists.    Of course, the camera's jpeg settings need to be finely tuned first.  I find that my LX100 produced beautiful jpeg images and even though I also have the raw images, I have very rarely needed to use them to "salvage" a poorly exposed shot.

I've been supporting this opinion quite strongly until the moment when I developed the first RWLs from my D-Lux through PSE13. The difference in appearence was seen instantly. It's difficult to describe - particularly in a (for me) foreign language -, but the JPGs from ACR definitely have more "depth" and in particular clearer colours.

Having post processed JPGs with FastStone Image Viewer for quite some time with the impression that RAW developement could possibly not yield better results, I've changed my mind completely. And post processing RAWs with ACR is even easier and also way more comfortable than processing JPGs with FSIV.

And as a side note: I do not belong to the young generation being impressed by every gimmick. I'm 76 years old.

I use C1 for the RWL's. Unlike in Lightroom, I can access the non corrected sensor image and squeeze in more pixels. the edges are sometimes softer, but at different focal lengths I can have access to more of the sensor's real estate, which can be useful.

Below is an uncorrected rwl file that I see in C1. The smallest square is what I get in Lightroom.
