Advertisement Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here Noctilux f1 sold on eBay for £2400!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Kolossus Posted September 14, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2015 Looking for a 35 ASPH fle I was persumably some minutes to late to buy one of those lenses...with a nice M9 attached to it as its rearcap for € 3750. Guess how I am feeling...
jaapv Posted September 14, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2015 Looking through the "Leica Deals" at the bottom of the forum, I notice that there are very few to zero bids on all items. It appears to me that Leica gear is not moving. In a stagnating market, expect good opportunities.

Guest Posted September 15, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 15, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't. "Inherited from my grandfather" may be true, but on eBay it is a dodgy phrase. The other good one is, Genuine reason for sale. Faulty or just plain knackered is a genuine reason. I find eBay a very good place to sell unwanted things and also buy all sort of items that are no longer easy to get through normal retail. M9reno Posted September 15, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 15, 2015 Don't. "Inherited from my grandfather" may be true, but on eBay it is a dodgy phrase. 'Inherited from my father' would seem much more likely given the age of this lens (1980s).

250swb Posted September 15, 2015 Share #10 Posted September 15, 2015 I'm always suspicious of short auctions, 4 days in this case, and when buyers identities are protected, and I think it may have been a lucky escape. It has the feel of a lens that will be back on Ebay before long. Steve

jaapv Posted September 15, 2015 Share #12 Posted September 15, 2015 Another warning sign is the rather buyer-unfriendly tone of the seller. It usually indicates large problems, should anything go wrong ( see his retort to a buyer about a laptop!)
earleygallery Posted September 15, 2015 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2015 There's a few other warning signs IMHO. The 'inheritence' thing is always a red flag. The listing states a 14 day return period but in the text he says items must be returned within 7 days if the buyer is unhappy. He states items can not be collected, but in the last sold items on feedback (two expensive watches) the seller offered collection as an option. Most of his listings end around Friday evening and he says he can only post items on a Saturday. I wonder if there will be some reason why they can't be posted this Saturday..... However, there is an email and contact phone number shown in the contact details, so I guess interested parties could try phoning the seller..... It could be genuine, but there's too many doubtful points for me if I was looking for one of his items.
Paul J Posted September 15, 2015 Share #14 Posted September 15, 2015 I've seen some surprising things on ebay. Some expensive lenses go very cheaply and I think there is genuine good luck timing. But Looking at recent Leica used prices, it looks like they have all dropped quite significantly and quite quickly in all but a few items. There is certainly no shortage of supply. On top of that Leica have being offering things on sale for extended periods and slashing the Retail Price of the S by $8000. I've never seen Leica offering sales before. There certainly are some alarm bells ringing, but perhaps it's temporary, perhaps it's just the new CEO's adjustments. Though, perhaps, it should be no surprise when companies like Sony are doing things so well, offering so much and so cheaply, and Zeiss offerings are keeping up with, or besting Leica equivalents in performance and build, at a fraction of the cost. Well had you bid, the price would have been higher. That truly was a steal, and looks fine. Chinese buyers have helped keep lens prices high, but have less money now. Add to that the usual fall collapse. M240 now is no problem at 4K USD

Camera sales have been in the doldrums for a while now and Leica are no exception (and after the heady days of 2011-12 possibly have the furthest to fall). It may vary a little by region and there have been temporary upsurges in interest and sales with new products like the Q but if you speak to anyone honest in the business they will tell you that Leica sales have been slow (at best). In my opinion there are a number of factors at play. Some are structural, like the market shift from system cameras; economic conditions in key markets; and that, in reaching a certain level of quality and functionality, it becomes harder to shift new "better" products. Other factors IMO include a general cooling of interest in the Leica brand. Fashion is cyclical and Leica no longer seems like the hottest name in town. You only have to look at the slow discussion in this forum regarding a lot of the new products to see this cooling of interest in Leica. The Q seems to be the only product that still has legs (cf. M246 and T discussions).

This was clearly a bogus auction. I too read the blurb about no personal collections but wanted to bid and collect myself via prior arrangement. I live only a few miles from the seller, if that was actually his/ her real address. I agree, if its too good to be true, it often is!
