Here is another image taken with my R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 and my tripod mounted A7r.

Image taken at about f16 for DOF in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.

Thank you Richard. Did you get sharp corners at f/2.8 or f/4 at infinity with this lens? Corners are sometimes soft there with my 5D so i would be interested to see how the Sony behaves by comparison.

I didn't try at f2.8 or f4.  I also don't shoot that often at f5.6 due to the need for DOF for most of my shooting.  But, I believe the lens gets sharper at f5.6 and is probably most critically sharp at f8.

If you want sharp corners all around & great image quality just get the X-Vario.

I also like my A7 with CY Zeiss (28/2.8 & 50/1.7) but the XV is the finest digital camera I've ever owned.

ps..my GXR w/M mount is a close 2nd or 3rd.

Same combo suffers from corner smearing at very short distance though (about 20 cm).

A7s mod + 21/3.4 asph at f/3.4.

The tiny CV 21/4 does significantly better from this viewpoint.

A difficult lens on my Epson R-D1, Fuji X-E2 & M240 bodies but not on the Sony somewhat surprisingly.

A7s mod + CV 21/4 at f/4.

Same combo at about 20cm subject distance. No significant corner smearing here. Grain comes from high iso (12800).

The 24/3.8 asph performs better than the 21/3.4 asph on the A7s mod but it is slightly outperformed by both 28/2.8 asph and CV 21/4 in my tests.

A7s mod + 24/3.8 asph at f/3.8:

A7S mod + previous 28/2 # 11604 at f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6 at about 20cm focus distance.
Focus shift test. Nothing to worry about IMO.
