pontus Posted August 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! Just want to share my excitement... I used to shoot film with a Summilux 35 (pre-asph) on my M4. Then a while back I decided to go digital (for a lot of reasons), but I didn't have the budget for a digital M. I actually sold the M4 and the 'lux, got myself a Fuji X-pro 1 with the 23mm. A very nice camera, but no rangefinder. I've been trying to fall in love with it for about a year and it hasn't happened yet. Nothing wrong with the image quality, it's great. But shooting it is not like shooting a rangefinder camera. So now I'm letting all that stuff go, plus a bunch of fly fishing and fly tying equipment. Looks like I'm getting some kind of M9 soon. I'll miss that 35 'lux, probably have to settle for some cheaper lens for a while, but at least I'll be back to shooting a rangefinder camera. BerndReini Posted August 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2015 Congrats and welcome back. The general rule is to never sell a Leica lens, buts far as that goes the 35 lux pre-aspherical is probably a good one to be without in the digital world. pontus Posted September 28, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted September 28, 2015 Woohoo! Now I've got an M9 and a 'cron 35. Loving it!

luigi bertolotti Posted September 28, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2015 Welcome back to RF !!! And don't worry to much about old Lux 35 : frankly said, I think it's one of the best classics to sell... I have one very old, in chrome...and seeing the current prices one can find on the Net, sometime feel the temptation... Fact is that the Summicron can be used safely at f2, and same ALMOST applies to Summilux...(I mean... at f2... )
pontus Posted September 28, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted September 28, 2015 The cron is great, and it can focus closer!
TRIago Posted September 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Exact same combo as me, but my cron is the Asph.My M9 is just on it's way back from Wetzlar w/ the new developed CCD.I won't be buying any digital camera until the M9 literally dies. It's like having a brand new CCD in 2015 for no extra money. Gotta love Leica.
fiftyonepointsix Posted September 28, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 28, 2015 I won't be buying any digital camera until the M9 literally dies. It's like having a brand new CCD in 2015 for no extra money. Gotta love Leica. That's how I feel... And my older CCD based cameras are 22yrs, 17yrs, and 15yrs old respectively...Still work, all on original CCD's. The M8, M9 and M Monochrom are youngsters by comparison. pontus Posted October 3, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted October 3, 2015 After five days my M9 died with a shutter fault error message. Looks like it'll have to take a trip to Solms.
gwpics Posted October 3, 2015 Share #10 Posted October 3, 2015 Pontus Welcome back to real photography. Your story is very much the same as mine, and I came back from being a Fujifilm X-World photographer to be a Leica one when I left my 3 years of X-Pro1 behind to start shooting with an M9. I used to have an M6 and it is great to be back in the Leica fold. I am sure you will enjoy being Leica digital as much as I do. Gerry

pontus Posted November 11, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted November 11, 2015 Got it back today! With firmware 1.204, not sure if that means they changed the sensor as well?
ramarren Posted November 11, 2015 Share #16 Posted November 11, 2015 Congrats and welcome back. The general rule is to never sell a Leica lens, buts far as that goes the 35 lux pre-aspherical is probably a good one to be without in the digital world. Why do you say that? I use a 1972 Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 v2 with my M-P. It is a wonderful lens. The only downside is that I wish it focused a bit closer. ramarren Posted November 11, 2015 Share #17 Posted November 11, 2015 Hi! Just want to share my excitement... Congratulations on getting back to a Leica M! I'm glad Leica is supporting you well with a new shutter. Enjoy the camera a lot!
BerndReini Posted November 12, 2015 Share #18 Posted November 12, 2015 Why do you say that? All vintage lenses do well on the M9, especially in black and white. The 35cron pre-aspherical is magical and what I meant is that you can shoot at a higher ISO and therefore don't necessarily need the wide open aperture over the f2 of the cron. pontus Posted November 18, 2015 Author Share #19 Posted November 18, 2015 Got it back today! With firmware 1.204, not sure if that means they changed the sensor as well? Leica confirmed that they did upgrade the sensor. So cool!
