lucerne Posted August 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) A new Leica Q is in my bag, and my M9-P is resting while I familiarise myself with the handling of a very different camera.. Now I have the opportunity of a free installation of LR 6 so I've downloaded the installation files but have stopped short of installing the software on my Macbook Pro. I've been using LR4 since 2012. Clearly, LR6 will facilitate the Q. (1) Is it not possible to add the correct Q profile to previous versions? (2) Are there other reasons why LR6 and Q combine well? All advice based on your experience would be appreciated.

digitalfx Posted August 10, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2015 Why don't you want to upgrade to LR6? its free and the program has advanced quite a bit since LR4 Id suggest you upgrade...but if for some reason you just don't want to LR4 doesn't require a profile as Leica uses DNG files which are supported by all versions of LR. To get the most out of the color profile though, you will need LR6
viramati Posted August 10, 2015 Share #3 Posted August 10, 2015 Lr6 is a lot more advanced than Lr4 though it is a BIG programme and may slow things down unless your macbook is pretty new
sturmi Posted August 11, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 11, 2015 All advice based on your experience would be appreciated. Installing LR6 will NOT erase your LR4 installation ! So you can easily use both. The only caveat: you might have to start a new LR library, since converting the old LR4 to a LR6 library would prevent a further use with LR4. But you can open a copy of your LR4 library, convert it to LR6 and edit all your old images also with LR6.

Do check the latest version of camera raw might not support VERY old version of LR. Ming
