CV 15mm help needed

Recommended Posts

I received my adapter from JM for the CV15mm. I think I have done everything correctly, but I am not getting a WATE menu. I have installed v1.102 and set the M8 to Lens detection ON + UV/IR. I coded the adapter with nail polish per Carsten's table. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Your help would be appreciated. large.jpg

Thanks Tim for your help. I had actually started out with just the black "dot". It wasn't working, so I painted the white.

I just removed the white...still not working.

Any more ideas? When I compare the base with the base of my 28 cron, I see that the flange that is opposite the "dots" is a tiny bit shorter on the adapter, but I did check and I'm bringing up the 90/28 framelines.

Do you have other coded lenses that are recognized OK? Check the sensors on the camera mount and make sure they are clean. Your CV 15 mount is coded exactly like mine which works fine.

I just put my 28mm cron on the M8 and shot a white background. I used the eyedropper in the Lab color space on the corners to see if the cyan was out of balance (because I couldn't see cyan drift).

The 28 mm is reported when I take a shot in my exif data.

I inspected the sensors and they are clean. I have only had this M8 for about 3 weeks. My first M8 died of SDS.

Cindy, my CV 15 with John Milich adapter works great. I just looked at it and yours is coded just like mine (white dots and all). The WATE menu comes up when the camera is turned on after mounting the lens. I wished the camera would remember the 16mm setting or at least let the user set a defalt, but it has to be set each time you turn the camera on. I have noticed that the 16mm setting is remembered if the camera is turned off and back on without changing lenses, but not when the lens is changed. Sorry I can't help you more.

There have been reports of light leak causing non-detection of the code. Try putting a piece of gaffer tape over the 6-bit code area after you mount the lens to keep out any light. If you get the WATE menu, then you know what the problem is. You may want to clean up the adapter around the 6 wells to make sure there are no debris (left-over nail polish) causing a light leak.

Hi Cindy,

I also had problems with the coding of the JLM adapter, try extending the black all the way to the base of the adapter (outside the little grove, towards the center of the lens). This worked for me, I used black nail polish.

One thing that is a bit strange, and maybe the production specs for the CV 15 has changed (I have a brand new one - May production) - but the lens does not align with the build-in lens shade perfectly horizontal, it's about 5 degrees off. I have not heard anyone else commenting about this. Maybe it does not matter, the pics are perfectly sharp in any case.

Btw, my first post, I've been enjoying all the expert advice here for a while, but I did not feel I had much to contribute. I have been shooting M for many years though, the M8 has brought back all the wonderful feelings about Leica.

Cheers, -Peter

Peter,

I bought a new CV 15 today and can confirm that my lens shade is also off by 5-10 degrees.

Pete.

I want to thank Tim, Carl, Mark, Lee, Peter and Peter. I really appreciate your help. After 2 trips away with my first M8, I wasn't liking the idea that maybe I would have to send this one back with a faulty code sensor.

Peter L, I had already thought of extending the line. That didn't help. Finally, after Peter P suggested a light leak, I took the adapter off and removed all the nail polish. I went over the whole adapter and mount and got every speck off. I repainted the black dot. It works!!!!

There must have been a little blob causing a light leak.

The moral support from everyone on this forum when a person has a problem is just wonderful.

Hi Cindy,

Glad to hear it. I was going to suggest that you clean up any paint outside of those wells. I've been painting a bunch of these over the last few months and I fill each well with paint and then gently scrape over the well area with an old credit card (from the inside of the adapter area outwards) so as to remove any paint above the wells. I do one well at a time, ie:

1. Fill well 1 with paint

2. scrape outwards with edge of credit card

3. fill well 2 with paint

4. scrape outwards with edge of credit card

etc.

John Millich and I have generally found that all wells must be painted for the code to be picked up. Sounds like some others have had luck just painting the blacks in but I've painted all wells for every adapter I own and every adapter works correctly.

BTW, many kinds will likely work but I paint the white wells with L'Oreal French Tip White 130. Go ahead and paint with it...you're worth it. <G> I can't seem to find my black paint bottle now but it was some kind of black enamel nail polish.

Cheers,

Sean

Not sure what to do now , I will never find my nail polish again at the stores. ROTFLMAO

I think L'orel owes the Leica forum a few bucks in advertising fees . LOL

Hi Pete,

It's off because the adapter is between the lens and the camera. It's originally meant for screwmountcamera's so with the adapter it does not screw in completely. It can be fixed very easily. On the screwmount of the lens you'll find a couple of screws. When you take them out you'll notice there is another set of holes for the screws underneath the metal ring. Just use those to screw the mount back on and it's aligned again. Really very easy and you can't do anything to mess up the lens.

Cindy,

Try putting in a little more black. All the way up to the edges. Worked for me.

Good luck,

Hans
