Sean has completed and just posted his review of the super-wides for the M8.

The site is a little slow this morning, so I surmised that so many people were reading it that it would already be posted here.

Knock yourselves out.

Thanks Bill. I have been living and breathing that review for weeks now. I'm so glad its finally done and the results were very interesting to me. The WATE came up aces and the CV 15 was also a standout in almost all respects.

Cheers,

Sean

Hi Sean, I've skimmed through the review - ok, I've read the last few paragraphs :-), and I was just wondering what difference using a B+W 486 filter would make compared to a Leica one. I ask because I have a milled adaptor ordered and I have an 'O' ringed B+W 486 on my CV 15mm at the moment. The cyan effect is very pronounced on my currently un-coded lens. In your opinion will my current configiration be managable once the coded adaptor arrives, or will I need to buy a Leica filter?

Appologies if this question is addressed in the body of the review.

Man, can Sean do a review. As good as the best of any of the lenses he evaluates and then some! This one reinforced my belief that the CV15 is one of the finest wide angles available, at any price, on any mount. My personal wide decision was to go with the CV15 and the 24 elmarit, which is beyond excellent. But I wouldn't kick the WATE out of my bag! best....Peter

Luckily it is, you'll see results with both kinds of filters on the CV 15. Short answer is that the 486 is OK but the Leica filter is better (on that lens).

Cheers,

Sean

Thank you very much. For whatever reason, writing that review I felt like Ahab chasing his whale - I'd think I was done but then there was always just "one more thing" that needed to be covered. I ended re-shooting the whole resolution series just to be sure the results were right.

Cheers,

Thankyou Sean for confirming my thoughts on the WATE,your reviews are always a joy to read.

The WATE really is a wonderful lens that currently lives on my M8 with Johns adapter.

To be able to switch from 21-24-28 means that it is the travel lens for the M8.

All i am waiting for is the 49mm Leica IR filter which I am sure I read was shipping from the beginning of this month, where is it Leica !!

Cheers

Matthew.

Sean, have you ever considered compiling your reviews and publishing them? I subscribe to your site and find the reviews so rich in information that they bear rereading many times. I would buy printed copies for reference if they were available.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your review of the 90's when you can catch your breath.

Regards, Doug

Any bomb shells in the review?

Well I've made no secret of my love for CV lenses and I suppose it could be considered a "bombshell" that the CV 15/4.5 stands up so well against competition costing 10X as much!

A terrific review, Sean, as always very informative and exhaustive. Well done.

Sean - Whilst being in danger of 'gushing', I'm a huge fan of your revue methodology. All my life I have adhered to the Groucho Marx maxim of not joining any club that would have me as a member, but I am truly glad that I broke the habit of a lifetime when I became a subscriber to RR. Bravo Sean; your review work is greatly appreciated by many of us and your 'wides' review maintains the high integrity we appreciate. I look forward to the forthcoming 35 mm lens reviews.

Agnosticism is a worthwhile faith.
