Advertisement Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Hi dbdecker, Take a look here New M at PhotoPlus Expo 2015?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rick Posted July 28, 2015 Author Share #122 Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks. I agree, more resolution isn't everything, but it helps. I have both the D800E and A7R with their 36 MP and am looking forward to the A7R Mark II with 42.4 MP. Considering all the other improvements the A7R II would still be of interest to me even if it had only 36 MP. Later this month and in early August the A7R II will start shipping. Then I'll find out for myself whether Leica WA M lenses will fare better than on the A7R. If push comes to shove I suppose one can replace the sensor cover glass and significantly improve M lens performance as was observed with the A7R. In any case the A7R II should be a terrific camera for my Leica R lenses. :-) I doubt anyone here is looking at modifying the A7r II by removing the cover glass just to shoot the excellent Leica wide angle lenses when they look best in 35mm format-class on the M240. And, like you agree, 42MP isn't much of an increase in linear resolution from the current M240. My guess, the new M will once again provide best in 35mm-class photographs when introduced this fall. jmahto Posted July 28, 2015 Share #123 Posted July 28, 2015 ISO improvement and Bulb without a short limit (means i can get rid of a Sony 2nd body for occasional use) Exactly my thought.
r7photo Posted July 28, 2015 Share #124 Posted July 28, 2015 Clue?? I recently called to speak to my Leica dealer / owner but was told he was in Germany, I suspect new cameras are being tested in the wild Next m should be awesome
ramosa Posted July 31, 2015 Share #125 Posted July 31, 2015 Just ... Please ... No bigger or heavier than the M9 ... With the M6 being ideal.
Tmuussoni Posted July 31, 2015 Share #126 Posted July 31, 2015 ISO improvement and Bulb without a short limit (means i can get rid of a Sony 2nd body for occasional use) Yes, this please!!! No words can describe how much I am annoyed by lack of bulb mode. I can't help but feel sorry how some of the potential of lenses like Super-Elmar-M 21mm go wasted, as we are not allowed for long enough exposure work... If the only change in a new camera was to allow exposures longer than 60 seconds, it would be worth it.

lct Posted August 1, 2015 Share #131 Posted August 1, 2015 Haha yes i can yet hear the cries of outrage from self appointed experts predicting for the nth time the death of Leica.

Leica Peter Posted August 1, 2015 Share #136 Posted August 1, 2015 I do like a good sense of humour, and that made me laugh! As with all digital cameras you can spend your time chasing the latest model but I just have a little awful thought having spent a large amount of money it would be a shame if its updated in as couple of months? However I love what I have in front of me and next week in Tuscany will be its first outing.
jmahto Posted August 1, 2015 Share #137 Posted August 1, 2015 I think you should immediately panic and smash it with a hammer. All these experts have predicted it's death. It won't work. Not immediately but soon... as soon as the new model comes to the market. Not only the older model stops functioning well but even the photographs taken with older model starts becoming dull. This is all because of a natural phenomenon predicted by a mad scientist Ken Rockwell, called "Digital Obsolescence" (as opposed to archival film that has the longevity of 100 years). This is why I try to retake ALL my pictures again with the new camera just to make sure they all look beautiful to my cat.
jrp Posted August 1, 2015 Share #138 Posted August 1, 2015 Hmmmm ... I have not tried the Q, but I have had a go with the Sony A7R ii and the quality of the pictures is ... very satisfying ,,, I think that it is that the Sony / Zeiss lenses are pretty good (and the 50mm and 35mm reasonably lightweight) but it's the dynamic range and lack absence of noise / retention of detail at high iso that makes it all work. The in-body image stabilisation, 4k video, etc, are just icing on the cake. Yes, the Sonys may be soulless, but boy do this one deliver. I have only tried the 50mm APO on it so far (the ideal lens for dusk / night lights; the Zeiss has to be stopped down further to get aberration-free results), and I have read that wider lenses will suffer at the edges. The die is, by now, cast, but if Leica's next M colour sensor can get close to the Sony's we're in for a v good time indeed.

Could you post a killer photograph that you have taken with unbelievable camera and lens combination? Rick

The WATE will work just fine with the A7RII - last time I checked that was still a Leica WA M lens.
