The old release was also veru good, but the new one is more suited to the digital M 240 and followers

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean.  Are you saying that the 28/2 Summicron-M asph version 2 is more suited to all digital M cameras or just to the M240 and M10?

Pete.

Old post here. I expected to sell the earlier version but i don't see significant differences, besides sharper corners when focusing at infinity. Also i have often children around me and i fear to hit them with the metal hood of the current lens so i ended up keeping both versions and using the current one outdoor only... Makes little sense i admit... Both great lenses anyway.

Hello,

I think the first release of the Summicron 28 was optimised for film, and was already very good for digital M. The new 28mm summicron has been optimised for digital and is thus more crisp, up to the corner wide open on the Leica M240, which I use and on all Leica M digital. I think the new summicron 28 is also better on the Leica SL, as it has a flatter field than the previous one. I do not know about the other camera brands, but it shoud be better for them too. Still the new summicron 28 performs at its best on a Leica M digital (and Leica M film too).

The new summicron 28 with its new metallic sunshade is also more compact and blocks much less of the viewfinder than the previous release of it. It is therefore a pleasure to use on a Leica M.

Best regards.

Dominique

Summicron 28 v1 is now my most used lens.

Believe it or not I even abandoned 35mm lens -Zeiss ZM 35 1.4 and now use only Cron 28 + LUX 50.

The only drawback of Summicron 28 v1 is resolution/sharpnes at infinity. I think in this parameter it is inferior to Elmarit ASPH.

For all other parameters: color rendition, BW rendition, bokeh, smoothnes, low light photos, people photos (skin tones)... Cron is a clear winner (for me).
