Too many, not enough

3.4/21 SEM 11145.  Great wide lens, super sharp, high contrast, you really have to get up close and personal, like the 28mm below on steroids.

2.8/28 Elmarit-M v.4 11809. This was my go to reportage-style lens for 20 years.  Not as high contast and sharp as the 21 above bit still good.

1.4/35 Summilux Aspherical 11873.  A recent aquisition after using the 11874 for 20 years and the 11663 for a year.  The color is very mellow and the best of the three.  The rendering, contrast is between the 11663 and 11874.

1.4/35 Summilux ASPH 11874.  I still like this version the best because it has the best balance between color, rendering, snd sharpness.

1.4/35 Summilux ASPH FLE 11663.  Tack sharp, best contrast, a modern Karbe lens.  I have recently been using this lens the most since it is so perfect.

2/50 Summicron Collapsible v1 SOOIC-1956.  I just got this lens to complement the 50 AA for the M246.  I am still learning this lens' character.

2/50 Summicron v4 11819.  My first Leica lens and my sole lens for almost 3 years.  Overall a very nice lens.  Yes, it does flare a whole lot if there is strong front, side light source.  But, I have learned both how to avoid this or use this characteristic.

2/50 AA Summicron 11141.  Wow - the perfect lens.  Perfect colors, rendering, contrast, bokeh.  Very clinical and technically perfect Karbe signature lens.

1.4/50 Summilux Pre-Asph Black Paint 11623.  A mellower lens than the 50 Summilux ASPH.  I think it should be great with the M246.

1.4/50 Summilux ASPH 11891.  Very similar to the 35 Summilux ASPH FLE 11663 - I carry this when I want a tighter subject composition.

0.95/50 Noctilux 11602.  The bokeh is interesting but I really love is the "light of god" halo effect that it can impart on the central subject - no other lens I have can do this - I am still learning the other characteristics of this lens.

2/90 Summicron (Canada) 11136.  Also part of my first set of Leica lenses that I got in the '90s.  All of my family's passport photos have been taken with this lens.  The contrast at 2 is very pasty and I think this lens has much potential.  But, using the EVF or a 1.4x viewfinder adapter is a necessity.

Yes - I am still looking at other lenses.  I have the 1.4/50 Summilux Black chrome on order.  As for other lenses....  Definitely a 2/50 Summicron v1 Rigid, perhaps the 1/50 Noctilux v2 or v3, probably not the 1.4/75 Summilux, but never say never.

Just an update to my list.  Decided to get a second 35mm Summicron so now have both old non aspherical(my old fav) and new aspherical.  Crazy, right?  Reason, to always have these on the T and my M so not continuously switching back and forth for quick get up and go.  We shall see how I like the aspherical version, or not.  It has been bugging me why I have not warmed up to my two existing aspherical lenses for years, 28 Summicron and 35 Summilux, so this will be my final test.

35 summilux fle

50 summilux asph/noctilux 0.95

75 summilux

90 elmarit

I just bought a 240 m-p last week since my m9p will be gone for a few months getting a new sensor.  I’m going to un-leitax the R lenses I used on my Nikon D700 and use those again now too….glad I kept them when I sold off all my Nikon equipment.

2.8/24

1.4/35 ASPH pre FLE

1.0/50

1.4/50 ASPH

2.0/90 ASPH

plus some R-lenses

I mostly use the 35 and the 1.4/50 ASPH for my main interest, street-photography,

but on my M240 R-teles may come into play just so that I feel to be compatible with my friends long

telefoto-zooms, which they seem to use as standard lenses.

CV 12 - On route to see if it can work for me

CV 15 III - Most used lens, still need to be convinced WATE is worth the extra

35 Lux FLE - Love the lens but may change to 24 Lux/SE or 28 Cron as it bridges the gap better between the ultra wides and the 50

50 Lux Asph - More for people shots just love the rendering

Don't have any longer lenses as I rarely do portraits

21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH
35mm f/1.4 Summilux FLE ASPH
50mm f/2 APO Summicron
90mm f/2 APO Summicron

Over the next two years I plan to evaluate if I should add the 28mm f/1.4 Summilux ASPH to this kit. I suspect the 28/1.4 and 50/2 would be my standard 2 lens travel kit.

Hi MarkT,

keep the idea of a 1.4/75mm Summilux idea afloat. I have it as well as a 1.0/50mm v3 Noctilux. The 75mm Summilux renders and colours similarly to the 1.0/50mm Noctilux but is much better corrected and in a more intimate focal length.  I think it would probably pair exceptionally well with one of your pre-ASPH/FLE 35mm Summiluxes.

Regards,

MarkP

I have been very satisfied with this lens, although I tend to shoot it at f8.  It does suffer from CA, but that tends to be correctable in post.  It would be good to have an 14mm f2.8 but I suspect that it would be bullky and would work only if the bookeh was suitably smooth.   But the Voigtlander is reasonably portable and does the job when acreage is required.

I haven't had it long but it hasn't left my camera since I got it. I love it. It has a clean, classic, cinematic rendering and incredible bokeh. I imagine the APO has a more modern draw to it and other improved metrics but in terms of value it's hard to beat this Lendl.

I like the lens and I like the results I am getting from it.

i don't use it often, come to think about it no use at all in the last six months while I used all three 21s and all other listed lenses.
