mwalker649 Posted May 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 50 Cron, 35 lux, 28 Elmart, and a 15CV. I'm up next for a WATE. I'm thinking I'll sell the 35 Lux and the 15CV. Any comments? The 35 is new but not coded, how much should I ask?
Advertisement Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Hi mwalker649, Take a look here should I sell my 35 LUX?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted May 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2007 Why would you want to do that? The 35mm Summilux is a fine lens.
pklein Posted May 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 20, 2007 Mike: Did you like a 50mm lens with a film camera? Do you shoot available light much? If the answer to either of these questions is "yes," I would think long and hard before I sold the 35/1.4 ASPH. It is a spectacular lens, one of Leica's best in my opinion. Now that I have an M8, it would probably be the very last lens I would consider selling, sold, if I had to sell something. Of course, I'm a 50mm kind of guy. You may "see" differently. --Peter
colorflow Posted May 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2007 Mike: Is your 35 Lux the ASPH version? I suggest to keep it if yes. If no you may want to consider selling it and upgrade to the asph some day. It is prone to flare. I have the pre-asph version and prefer its compactness, but avoid situations with flare. mwalker649 Posted May 21, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted May 21, 2007 Its a new asph, just not coded. I may rethink selling it but it doesn't stay on my Camera much. Would you rather have a 35 LUX or a 50 LUX?
egibaud Posted May 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2007 If you have no back focus problem you should keep it. If you do have back focus problem but nevertheless like the 35mm angle, sell it and buy a 35Cron. Eric
Eoin Posted May 21, 2007 Share #7 Posted May 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its a new asph, just not coded. I may rethink selling it but it doesn't stay on my Camera much. Would you rather have a 35 LUX or a 50 LUX? I fully understand your dilemma, a lens not being used ties up cash that could be better utilised elsewhere in the focal range. As for the choice of 35 v 50 Lux, that's purely a question only you can answer based on your needs, You already have a 50 cron, how useful is that, is it used often enough to consider selling both the 35 & 50 to be replaced with the 50 Lux?. I happen to love the 35 Lux, but sometimes I wish it was just that little bit wider on the M8, but it's true beauty is the quality it delivers, wide open or stopped down seems to make little difference except for DOF. IMO there is little to choose between them except for the focal range 46.5 or 66.5 mm effective FOV with the M8.
parigby Posted May 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted May 21, 2007 Mike, You should most definately sell it - it's a terrible lens. As l'm in a good mood today, and feel sorry for you having got caught with such a donkey of a lens, l'm prepared, as a favour, to take it off your hands for $100.00 philip
mwalker649 Posted May 21, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted May 21, 2007 I guess I'll keep it and get it coded...how long is the wait anyone know?
AlanJW Posted May 21, 2007 Share #10 Posted May 21, 2007 I guess I'll keep it and get it coded...how long is the wait anyone know? When I sent my lenses in for coding Leica NJ said 3-4 weeks. The paperwork that came back after the lenses were received said 4-5 weeks. Its 3 weeks now and they're not done yet, so I am assuming a minimum of 4 weeks. But someone here said it also depends on the lens and whether they have the flanges available, and its hard to make accurate predictions.
colorflow Posted May 21, 2007 Share #11 Posted May 21, 2007 I guess I'll keep it and get it coded...how long is the wait anyone know? My three lenses, 28 Cron, 21 Elm, 75 Lux, took less than 4 weeks. It does seem to depend on the availability of the flanges. If you ever change your mind and want to sell let me know. Alan
fotografr Posted May 21, 2007 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2007 I guess I'll keep it and get it coded...how long is the wait anyone know? I've heard the wait is now up to 8 weeks for coding. It's worth keeping the 35 lux, in my opinion. It's my favorite all around lens on the M8.
tbarker13 Posted May 21, 2007 Share #13 Posted May 21, 2007 I emailed this morning asking for an estimate for the turn-around time for coding a 28 summicron. I'm leaving for a trip to Scotland in 8 weeks. I'm thinking it may not be such a good idea to try to get it coded before I go.
wparsonsgisnet Posted May 21, 2007 Share #14 Posted May 21, 2007 Its a new asph, just not coded. I may rethink selling it but it doesn't stay on my Camera much. Would you rather have a 35 LUX or a 50 LUX? Mike, this won't help you a bit. I use both of these lenses. I have the 24, a 35 'lux asph, and a 50 'lux asph. I use the 24 and the 35 the most for photographing dance or any other motion activity. I use the 50 for portraits, now, along with the 75 'lux. I figure these things are like my children, (even tho they are less expensive than the kids) I can't sell them. I can't see Leica making lenses in the future that are improved from this level. Good luck with the WATE. I wish I were thinking of getting one.
yoMammabot Posted May 21, 2007 Share #15 Posted May 21, 2007 I personally could not live without my 35 lux ... Fast Fast Fast and it gives me selective focus options that I love to have in the bag. Everytime I think I want a smaller Cron I always remember Winter. Don't get me wrong... I still want a Cron and its easy to dismiss a lens I haven't used yet !
