jmahto Posted June 23, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted June 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have seen some oil on my 50 lux ASPH aperture blade for quite some time (almost 6 months) and now decided to send it for CLA. It is beyond warranty. Â I spoke to my local dealer in Palo Alto, Keeble and Shuchat and they said that they will send the lens to Leica NJ. They also said that they have a local service (not from Leica) too where turnaround will be faster. Since I have never sent anything to Leica before, I am asking whether I should send it to Leica or get it cleaned by the local service? Anybody in San Francisco area have similar experience that they can share? Â

jdlaing Posted June 23, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted June 23, 2015 Sherry Krauter did one for me and it was perfect. I'd say local service as recommended by your dealer would be okay.

Mijo Posted June 23, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted June 23, 2015 I sent the same M6 twice to Leica NJ, about 3 years ago. Â The first time was for a CLA, which took 10 weeks but it was during the holidays and they close down for a week. Â The second time, 8 months after the CLA, was for the shutter curtain jamming. Â The second time it was shipped back with 6 weeks. Â I'm curious to hear how long it takes Leica NJ to repair your lens, if you should go that route. rsolomon Posted June 24, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted June 24, 2015 I live within driving distance and had dropped off and picked up directly. I had a CLA on a 75 cron. Total time 5 1/2 weeks. I suppose I saved some shipping time.
MarkP Posted June 24, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted June 24, 2015 Mine went back to Leica Germany to remove oil off aperture blades at no cost despite the lens being out of warranty.
earleygallery Posted June 24, 2015 Share #7 Â Posted June 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Such a repair should be routine for any competent camera technician, so I wouldn't worry about sending it back to Leica if you have a more convenient option.
