I wanted to start a new thread just to say thanks to all of you that took the time and patience to help me get my head wrapped around this shooting with the Leica Monochrom. There was loads of info passed onto me in my previous two threads and it took me a while to get my head wrapped around it but I now feel a light has been turned on and things are coming a wee bitty clearer :)

I know I still have a long way to go especially with my PP skills, but I am working hard on that subject and trying to get better.

I went out this morning to Putrajaya to get some early morning shots in B&W with my Leica Monochrom and 90mm APO and Noctilux 0.95...all lenses with my new Yellow/Orange filters attached

The first shot was taken yesterday evening with my 1950's Elmar 2.8.....I love that lens on the MM

I don't really see any difference in them from previous pictures. You are getting too caught up in the technicalities of post processing and I don't think you are 'seeing' the photograph that is lurking within these pictures. The only reason to do any post processing is to wrangle as much as possible out of the image, and by that I don't mean detail, I mean the emotional content, the element that makes people go 'wow!'.

Yes, Steve, no argument there, but knowing how to handle one's tools does help to practice one's craft, thus given more scope to present the content well.

As far as using those tools, it might be helpful initially to shoot a series with and without the filters (or different filters) to really understand the effect on different parts of the image.  And then experimenting with what can be done in PP.  Otherwise there's not as much learning going on….using the tools as a means to an intended result.

Hi again. This pictures look much better. It is a pity that you did not start with the monochrom with real darkroom experience. That helps a lot. May I do you a suggestion. Look at Serge Ramelli's tutorials. I think his style is a bit over the top but sure knows how to make expressive pictures from flat files.
