USB PTP connection problem

This problem occurs with M9 and Monochrom.  If USB is set to PTP (no problem with Mass Storage), I can download all pictures via Lightroom 6 on a Mac Pro.  Everything is fine except when the downloading is finished, and I disconnect the USB cable, the camera M9 and MM hangs completely.  It can only be started if the battery is removed and then re-inserted.  Was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this same problem?

Thank you in advance for any comment although my current solution is to use only USB Mass Storage.

In general it is far better to use a card reader for any camera, if only to avoid sweeping the camera off your desk by the USB cable, and, of course, to avoid problems like this one. (btw, do you eject the camera properly?)

Secondly it is advisable to lock the card before reading it out. You'd be surprised at the amount of junk that computers write back onto cards. (like for instance an infection with .DS Store)

Do not delete images on the card, and certainly not in the computer, and more certainly not with the camera still connected to the computer (hence, lock the card as well...)

Use format in the camera to clean up your card after downloading.

You can use SD Formatter on your card from time to time for a spring clean. Afterwrds, format in the camera.

Some advise not to delete images in the camera, but I have not had a single problem doing that in over 15 years of digital shooting.

Thank you Jaap. Your advice is very useful and I will follow them.   With USB PTP it is not possible to eject card as the connection does not show up on the Mac as a drive.  I always eject the card if I use USB MassStorage.  Btw this hanging does not happen with Nikon, Sony, or MFT cameras that I use.

It should show in finder and you can eject it from there. If you turn the camera off you without ejecting it should show a message on the Mac that the device was disconnected wrong and you may lose data blah blah or words to that effect.

In any event you should always turn the camera off before plugging/unplugging cables.
