The summilux wide open at 1.4 and all smaller f stops is sharper than the noctilux at 1.4 or other f stops.

so it boils down to if you want 0.95 or not… to shoot at 0.95

otherwise smarter to get the summilux.

As the starter of this thread and shooting the Noctilux over 10 years on weddings and portrait sessions, I just can say that buying a Noctilux is not about sharpness. It's about character, softness and some kind of magic in your pictures. It's just on you if you want a lens with such a clear signature in your images.

I sold mine 1 year ago because I got rid of that look. But now after some time I start to miss it. At the moment I use a Thypoch 50mm 1.4. It blows the Summilux out of the water in a lot of aspects - except pricing. So if you WANT to spend more, buy a Summilux.

My two cents. My main everyday lenses are a 35mm/1.4 smlx and a 15mm F/4.5 (155g) with a M11. I love the Noctilux 50/0.95 for night street photos. Night shooting, 1/1000s, ISO 16000, and the 0.95.

It depends which Summilux. The first version of the 50 Summilux ASPH, from 1995(?) is very similar to the 0.95 Noctilux from f/1.4 for all practical purposes.  Erwin Puts makes a similar comment in his Compendium.

But, in terms of fingerprint, I agree there is something special about the Noctilux …
