StS Posted April 23, 2015 Share #21 Posted April 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd like to upgrade the v4.2 I got from Leica when I bought my M9-P, but I'm worried my serial number won't qualify for the 75€ update. If I'm not mistaken, student/teacher editions don't qualify, for instance. Should anyone succesfully update their Leica LR for the discounted price I'd very much appreciate to hear it. I upgraded yesterday from Lightroom 4 to 6 for 73-ish EUR - my old computer did not support 5, so I skipped one edition. Stefan

StS Posted April 23, 2015 Share #22 Posted April 23, 2015 ...I should mention that my Lightroom 4 was not a Leica version. All I needed to install the upgrade was the serial number for LR4.

oronet commander Posted April 23, 2015 Share #24 Posted April 23, 2015 Well, I forgot my worries and bought my 75€ upgrade. Everything updated correctly and the software feels clearly snappier even in non-GPU-accelerated Mac mini :-)
edwardkaraa Posted April 23, 2015 Share #25 Posted April 23, 2015 Well, I have never used the TAN of my M240. When I open the software download page, I only get LR5 download option. I guess LR6 will not be available for M240 users?
Albert Andersen Posted April 23, 2015 Share #26 Posted April 23, 2015 Well, I have never used the TAN of my M240. When I open the software download page, I only get LR5 download option. I guess LR6 will not be available for M240 users? Hi. My friend got the same message. He sent a mail to Leica, and they reply to day with a licence no. and a link to Adobe for activation. It was also for a M240 camera, so I think it a question of time before Leica fix this matter without asking for it.
bobbywise Posted April 23, 2015 Share #27 Posted April 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Users who have already obtained their Lightroom serial number from Leica are not normally eligible for a free upgrade to any newer version that might later materialise. However, owners who haven't yet used their TAN are usually able to obtain a serial number for the latest version of Lightroom, usually a few weeks after the newer version is released. At least this is how it has worked in the past. (As a CC subscriber, it is a moot point for me as I get LR as part of that package and still have an unused TAN going back to 2012.) Do you think this unused TAN works on used, older (not current) cameras ? For example, I recently purchased a used Monochrom and used M9-P. Under the Monochrom, I can download only LR 4.2. Under the used M-9P, I had the message that the SW had been downloaded twice already, and to contact customer support. I emailed the SW team email to ask them about LR6, and my situation, but yet to receive a reply from them. I already have LR 5, but would like LR6, primary because it now supports face recognition (ok, some people may think it's gimmicky, but I find it useful). microview Posted April 24, 2015 Share #30 Posted April 24, 2015 What a palaver: I think I spent nearly an hour trying to purchase the LR6 download – and I'm still not there. Thanks to Jennifer for saying that the upgrade option is there, and you can (seemingly) upgrade from any earlier versions registered with Adobe. (You don't need a TAN number if you already have a registered LR5, 4 etc.) Firstly, the home page is more than Mac screen depth and so to find the standalone you do need scroll to the very bottom, right corner. If you are UK resident you need to be on that site too: I was looking at the parent (US) company and as I am used to internet purchases in £, € and $, I wasn't fazed by dollar princing. However having completed all the steps I had a message saying I wasn't registered to make purchases at that site. It's not clear (and Jennifer kindly points this out) that the line "complete" is active and you can scroll down to "upgrade". Finally, when I did complete the transaction – after a lot of signing in and out! – I was sent a helpful email receipt with instructions. Most downloads are there the moment you have paid for them but Adobe's? Oh no. Going through the steps I finally get a (red) warning saying processing incomplete and I may have to wait 24hrs to get the download. The page you see after signing-in isn't that clear: you need then to go into 'Plans and Products' rather than Account, to see your order number and potential download. I guess the site was overloaded last night because the entry for Adobe was shooting back and forth across the Safari heading without landing anywhere. It was very hit and miss to get there. I didn't get a trial version first; Adobe's receipt of course gives a serial number for your purchase either way.
microview Posted April 24, 2015 Share #31 Posted April 24, 2015 All sorted now! Available in about 12 hours rather than 24. Incidentally, Mac users will need OS 10.8 10.9 or 10.10 for LR6.
Chuck Albertson Posted April 24, 2015 Share #32 Posted April 24, 2015 What happens to all your plug ins if you upgrade from 5.7 to 6 ? - I have nik collection and dxo suite. I haven't upgraded from 5 to 6. But when I did the upgrade from version 4 to 5 last year (I'm a late adopter), the plug-in (Silver EfexPro 2) came along for the ride without any problems. An upgrade creates new a new catalog, but hangs on to the pre-sets from the old one.
Jeff S Posted April 24, 2015 Share #33 Posted April 24, 2015 I skipped the website, called Adobe during non-peak hours, and had the download in 5 minutes. Jeff

andybarton Posted April 25, 2015 Share #35 Posted April 25, 2015 Just to let anyone who is sitting on a redemption code from Leica, I registered my M240 this morning and was given a code that downloads LR6 They have made the system much better than when they first started, as all Leica give you now is the code and Adobe do the rest, instead of downloading the software direct from Leica's servers. Edit: WARNING KLAXONS! Hang on!! The link at the page that links through from the confirmation email sent from Leica downolads a zip file (!!!) and another file which I am very unhappy about running, even on my Mac Here is the page at Adobe Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! And here are the icons for the two files downloaded. I was expecting a disk image of maybe a gig in size. Not happy about this at all.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! andybarton Posted April 25, 2015 Share #36 Posted April 25, 2015 OSX didn't want to run the download file, which it seems wasn't yet recognised as from an identified developer (?), but after a manual override, it installed on my machine without any problems. I have re-read this thread (having found it completely impossible to find the download LR6 on the Adobe website I have opened up my security prefs and the little downloader app is now downloading the disk image. I am very unhappy about both of these situations. Adobe pissed me of mightily when they had my email address and login details stolen. This hasn't made me any more enamoured with them. andybarton Posted April 25, 2015 Share #39 Posted April 25, 2015 I know. Having installed LR6 and had a look at it, I can't find any difference at all from LR5. A totally frustrating and ultimately underwhelming morning so far. Thank goodness I didn't pay for it.
plasticman Posted April 25, 2015 Share #40 Posted April 25, 2015 Having installed LR6 and had a look at it, I can't find any difference at all from LR5. The main incentive for me was the improved speed, which so far seems to be significantly better (haven’t really stress-tested the application yet). I was hoping for an improved Book module, as I’ve started using Lr to produce small photobooks of my snapshots, but it’s essentially the same as in the previous version. The only other change that’s significant for me is that the application defaults to slightly altered image settings: I haven’t done any strict side-by-side comparisons yet, but they look very subtly different to my eye. Luckily I prefer the new version. What I dislike about Adobe is the constant spying they do, and the general hassle involved in having legitimate versions of their software. I had a lot of trouble with a MacBook a couple years ago, where I needed to switch the hard disk and couldn’t access all the apps to de-register them for that machine. To re-enable the applications when I finally got a new HD working was an endless process of frustrating phonecalls to Adobe. Likewise the hassle when I upgraded to Lr6 the other day: not only is the standalone version well-hidden, the upgrade price was also behind an obscure ‘dark pattern’ button, and the purchase area was inaccessible with ad-block turned on. Similarly Adobe apps always fight with Little Snitch (monitoring outgoing communication on my mac). With this release of Lightroom, the application also sends back your usage data - and associates it with your AdobeID. According to Adobe: “This information is associated with your Adobe account and allows us to provide you with a more personalized experience and improve product quality and features.” Thanks Adobe for giving me a “more personalized experience” but no thanks. Switching off the default ‘on’ behavior involves locating and logging-in to your online Adobe preferences, and finding the correct setting - then remembering to save your choice before leaving the page (this is also subtly obscured). In any case, I have no idea why people trust Adobe to maintain CC in the long-term. They have a long history of abandoning applications, and drastically changing prices when it suits them.
