Enbee Posted March 21, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello - I saw an issue with a new 50mm Summilux lens on the M-P 240. With 1.4 and viewfinder the photos I take are suprisingly darker but when I use live view the photos come out just perfect. I thought maybe something is wrong with my camera so I tried it with one of my other lenses and everything seemed perfect. Anyone faced a similar problem or any suggestions they may have. I haven't updated the camera with the latest firmware, as I though it added codes for a few new lenses. Any suggestions will be really helpful. My summilux. I have had the Summilux for about 2 months but I don't think I had tried it in a similar setting. Any suggestions whether this is a lens issue or a camera issue. Advertisement Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Hi Enbee, Take a look here M-P 240 with 50 Summilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 21, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2015 Neither I would say. It is more like inexplicable. Could you test this further? Have a look at your exposure modes.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted March 21, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2015 The M changes metering modes by default (from CW to matrix) when you engage live view. I would guess the wider lens just had a centre weight reading that more closely matched the matrix under your test conditions. Underexposure with backlighting and bright backgrounds is common with centre weighted metering. If you learn how it works it's quite easy to learn when to compensate. Enbee Posted March 21, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted March 21, 2015 Thank You both. Is this something that is an issue with low lighting only? I will try it later today? How can I learn about CW and Matrix metering on a 240?
Mornnb Posted March 21, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2015 Hello - I saw an issue with a new 50mm Summilux lens on the M-P 240. With 1.4 and viewfinder the photos I take are suprisingly darker but when I use live view the photos come out just perfect. Note that live view and the viewfinder use different metering systems, so different exposure results is not out of the ordinary. Live view uses a modern matrix system that is generally more accurate, same type of metering modern Canon and Nikon DSLRs use. Turn your Light Metering mode to 'Advanced' in settings, although that may drain more battery life and add shutter delay as it will make the camera do matrix metering via the sensor when shooting through the viewfinder. Another thing you can do is change the live view exposure to 'Centre Weighted' mode which will be very similar to Classic mode through the Viewfinder. The M240 is a mix of history and the future, the Rangefinder mode for technical reasons works best with Classic metering. (it's the lack of a mirror box reflecting light into an electronic metering system)
