jaapv Posted February 23, 2015 Share #21 Posted February 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Historically Safari editions tend to have somewhat higher prices. Whether this one will, is of course hidden in the future. I guess the Summicron with its nice hood and silver colour will command a modest premium anyway. Advertisement Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Leica Announces Leica M-P (Typ 240) Safari Set with Silver 35mm f/2 ASPH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted February 23, 2015 Share #22 Posted February 23, 2015 Is it a sign the that Safari Suit is coming back into fashion?
Paulus Posted February 23, 2015 Share #23 Posted February 23, 2015 YES IT IS PAULUS! Don't be so easily jaded... let me school you: How much is it that Leica charges these days to engrave the Leica Script logo onto the top of a camera? What cost for custom leatherette? A Non Standard Leica Lens Hood!! that thing would cost SERIOUS Dollars if Leica offered them for sale... I imagine a custom OEM Leica leather strap- not to Mention A Card HOLDER- (wow) would cost a small fortune... $$ And what price to get a frame preview lever installed on an M240 I wonder? That's possibly not even possible (except maybe for Seal)... all this for € 500?? Methinks: NO- the package deal costs less than the sum of its parts. add to that- the set will almost certainly retain a slightly higher resale vale You are or course right in this way.( Please don't shout ) I was more thinking in this way. I said" the sum of its regular parts just like you wrote And it doesn't cost 20,000?? It is actually cheaper than the sum of its regular parts? ": Leica M-P Chrome ( I believe it's a M-P not a M...) excl. Taxes: € 5619,00 SUMMICRON M 2/35 ASFERISCH CHROMe excl. Taxes: € 2181,82 = excl. Taxes :€ 7800,82+ Taxes: € 1638,17=€ 9438,99 And I think this is the way Leica bei Meister sees it in his ad... Maybe I did not understand the word " regular " http://www.thefreedictionary.com/regular
jaapv Posted February 23, 2015 Share #24 Posted February 23, 2015 And it costs only 500 Euro extra to get a camera that looks like it has been dropped into a Cow Pat past its sell-by date? Bargain of the year....
Hey You Posted February 23, 2015 Share #25 Posted February 23, 2015 Unlike the regular M240, this camera version has the lens preview lever. I find this unexpected.
colonel Posted February 23, 2015 Share #26 Posted February 23, 2015 This is one of the few special editions that I actually like and would buy if I was buying another M240 its quite subtle and the lens is lovely of course its all taste but "cow pat" is most unjaapvlike
indergaard Posted February 23, 2015 Share #27 Posted February 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would buy it instantly if it came with a Crocodile Dundee knife and Blu-Ray set. Need to get my Safari mojo on.
Paulus Posted February 23, 2015 Share #28 Posted February 23, 2015 I would buy it instantly if it came with a Crocodile Dundee knife and Blu-Ray set.Need to get my Safari mojo on. That knive is highly overrated.
CheshireCat Posted February 23, 2015 Share #29 Posted February 23, 2015 I would buy it instantly if it came with a Crocodile Dundee knife and Blu-Ray set.Need to get my Safari mojo on. It would work for me with an Indiana Jones bullwhip.
Herr Barnack Posted February 24, 2015 Share #30 Posted February 24, 2015 Actually a pretty good deal, price-wise. True; purchased individually, the camera body, lens/hood and strap total $984 USD more than the safari kit, and that's not figuring in the cost of the leather SD card wallet. Regarding the appearance of the green safari finish, tan strap and chrome lens & hood, I like it - even though at first I was less than bowled over by this color combo: Leica M-P Typ 240 Safari Kit I like it, but I think I still like the black on black look better. Guest Posted February 24, 2015 Share #31 Posted February 24, 2015 Why? What is missing for you on the current M-P? A waiting list of customers and a steady imput of money BrianP
Edward Louis Marit Posted February 24, 2015 Share #32 Posted February 24, 2015 I do not like it at all.
Paulus Posted February 24, 2015 Share #33 Posted February 24, 2015 A waiting list of customers and a steady imput of money BrianP Just like " Doe Letzten M6 " . Only diffenerece is, that you paid € 1000,- extra for just the extra inscription and a wooden box. Btw, is the also a wooden box?
indergaard Posted February 24, 2015 Share #34 Posted February 24, 2015 That knive is highly overrated. But it looks cool, and fits into the "safari theme". Since nobody would ever bring this kit on a real safari anyway
jaapv Posted February 24, 2015 Share #35 Posted February 24, 2015 Errrr... Why not:confused: I bring an M240 and Summicron 35 (plus a few other lenses etc on safari....
Paulus Posted February 24, 2015 Share #36 Posted February 24, 2015 Unlike the regular M240, this camera version has the lens preview lever.I find this unexpected. Why. it's an M-P?
earleygallery Posted February 24, 2015 Share #37 Posted February 24, 2015 I would buy it instantly if it came with a Crocodile Dundee knife and Blu-Ray set.Need to get my Safari mojo on. I've never understood why they call these olive green editions 'safari' as the Leica M is not exactly the ideal safari camera. However the M does have a long tradition as a war photographers camera and the 'Action Man' (or GI Joe for the US market) M has a much more appealing ring to it don't you think? jaapv Posted February 24, 2015 Share #38 Posted February 24, 2015 The tradition originated with the R3 Safari set (which included a 135). There was nothing wrong with the R3 as a wildlife camera. Somehow it spilled over into the rest of the range. Anyway, if they want to tout this as Safari- they should have included a Khaki Canvas EVF cover, handstitched. indergaard Posted February 24, 2015 Share #39 Posted February 24, 2015 Errrr... Why not:confused: I bring an M240 and Summicron 35 (plus a few other lenses etc on safari.... I didn't mean it like that. I ment that this camera (this specific design kit with the pretty colors and leather extras) would probably not be used on a safari
tookaphotoof Posted February 24, 2015 Share #40 Posted February 24, 2015 Who cares what it's called. I like it a lot! The only downside to all of this is I don't have enough money for it, unless I stop feeding my son...
