dolina Posted February 20, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was looking through the leica.com & BHPhoto site and came upon these two bodies. From what I understand the M-P has the following - No Leica red dot and other identifiers - 2GB image buffer for faster buffer response - Scratch resistant LCD glass - Higher price Pls add features I may have overlooked. It would be interesting to see these improvements passed onto the M Monochrom successor.
Advertisement Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Hi dolina, Take a look here Typ 240 vs M-P. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
indergaard Posted February 21, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2015 That's about it. Color correct dial and d-pad on the black model. The dial and d-pad are black like the rest of the camera, not silver as on the black M240's.
jcraf Posted February 21, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2015 Perhaps most significant for many is the welcome return of the frame line selection lever on the M-P (not present on the M240)
FlashGordonPhotography Posted February 21, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2015 A frame line selector that requires the camera to be powered on to use it is a waste of time, IMHO. I used the one on my M9's regularly but almost never on the M-P. I have one of each (M and M-P). In use they're essentially identical. I haven't scratched the screen on either. I haven't had significant buffer issues on either. I, personally, like the look of my M-P a bit better than my M. If I were to do it again I'd probably get an "ordinary" M. Although I do like having an easy way of telling my cameras apart without putting a sticker on one of them. Gordon
wda Posted February 22, 2015 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2015 I do not find it a hindrance powering up the camera for use and I rarely try to frame an image without any intention of taking a picture or two. I welcome the return of the frame selection lever; clearly Leica saw a need for its return. OP, another factor is residual value for those interested in the financials. Generally the 'P' versions hold their added value rather better. Just look at the differences in market values between the M9 and M9-P. Youth alone does not account for the significant difference. bocaburger Posted February 23, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I welcome the return of the frame selection lever; clearly Leica saw a need for its return. Kinda wish they'd clearly seen that need before they deleted it in the first place. Once I got used to not having it, it was no longer a compelling reason, so when it came down to getting second body I got another M240 and saved the money. Herr Barnack Posted February 23, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2015 Perhaps most significant for many is the welcome return of the frame line selection lever on the M-P (not present on the M240)The frame line lever, the sapphire glass LCD screen cover and the larger buffer capacity make the M-P well worth the extra cost, IMO. The M-P was not available when I got my M240; if it had been, I would have gotten the M-P without a second thought.
Millberg Posted February 24, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 24, 2015 Switched my 240 to an M-P a couple of weeks ago and are surprized how much I enjoy it. Especially when doing portraits as the increased buffer really makes a difference /Lars
