davidmknoble Posted February 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking at several Leica III's and have a question. I know the top and bottom plates are brass, so chipped or worn Chrome doesn't bother me. However, my favorite body has what appears to be either rust or worn chrome on the Screw mount. The camera had the shutter replaced and a CLA from DAG and takes great photos with a 3.5 35mm. I'm wondering what long term effects might be if the screw mount has rust. Inside was cleaned out and looks great from DAG. Does anyone have experience, knowledge about this? Thanks!

250swb Posted February 14, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2015 It shouldn't be rusty, are you sure it isn't brass showing through? Steve

I doubt it is rust, and if it is worn plating it is highly unlikely to change the axis or seating depth of the lens. Additionally, DAG would have advised if there were a problem. Enjoy! I was curious if the screw mount was steel. Then it might be rust. If it's brass it cannot be rust. Thanks ...

I am interested if anyone knows whether the screw mount is made of steel it brass. That would make it easy to see what the issue is. Thanks!
