jaapv Posted January 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anybody else trying to grapple with Dan Margulis’ Modern Photoshop Color Workflow? The book is very interesting, but I am struggling a bit with his actions. Using the two Hammer actions and the Modern Man from Mars does indeed help to enhance both color and luminosity detail, but things like Color Booster (Neon reds and greens ) and the Sharpening action (horrid wide halo’s )(although deleting the Hiraloam layers helps, but not fully) make me think the technique cannot be used 1:1 for M240 files. I find it an interesting excursion for certain high-detail images, but I cannot better my present workflow which is RGB-based with occasional colour enhancement by his Canyon Conudrum techniques. Anybody who can help?

Jeff S Posted January 24, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2015 Can't help, but Dan does appear to be answering comments via his blog. Perhaps he also responds to email. Jeff

erudolph Posted January 31, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 31, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the pointer to the PPW which I'd heard about but had not looked into. The quick start guide built into the PPW 4.05 panel confused me. Today I'm going to start watching some of Dan's videos and see if there's an example or two. jaapv Posted January 31, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted January 31, 2015 It is confusing, but very good
erudolph Posted February 1, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 1, 2015 Egads. I can't remember how many years I've used Photoshop and had never heard of the Apply Image function until today!
jaapv Posted February 2, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted February 2, 2015 Try reading his book....
jankap Posted February 9, 2015 Share #11 Posted February 9, 2015 I installed the software too. The book is somewhat "lang van stof" (could be condensed at half size). The sharpening is crude, I use PS CS6 again. In general (for learning) the procedure is very good. Jan
jaapv Posted February 9, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted February 9, 2015 The sharpening creates bad halos on Leica M files in my experience, but not on Nex7 files. I would not call it crude as it appears it involves 109 steps in the action. I prefer my own sharpening anyway
jankap Posted February 10, 2015 Share #13 Posted February 10, 2015 The project is well organized. There are the book, the software, the videos and the examples. And one pays for the book only. Especially the color and the contrast management are very educative in my opinion. Jan
sanyasi Posted February 10, 2015 Share #14 Posted February 10, 2015 Jaavp: Is this the book you are referring to: Modern Photoshop Color Workflow The Quartertone Quandary, the PPW, and Other Ideas for Speedy Image Enhancement: Dan Margulis: 9780988280809: Amazon.com: Books Thanks
jaapv Posted February 10, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted February 10, 2015 Yes. It works for me. This is another one I liked, it approaches the colour workflow from a completely different angle http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Photoshop-Classic-Correction-Edition/dp/032144017X
