On Martians, Hammers and other tools

Is there anybody else trying to grapple with Dan Margulis’ Modern Photoshop Color Workflow?

The book is very interesting, but I am struggling a bit with his actions. Using the two Hammer actions and the Modern Man from Mars does indeed help to enhance both color and luminosity detail, but things like Color Booster (Neon reds and greens ) and the Sharpening action (horrid wide halo’s )(although deleting the Hiraloam layers helps, but not fully) make me think the technique cannot be used 1:1 for M240 files.

I find it an interesting excursion for certain high-detail images, but I cannot better my present workflow which is RGB-based with occasional colour enhancement by his Canyon Conudrum techniques.

Anybody who can help?

Sorry, I am learning LR via this reference: Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for Photographers Classroom in a Book By Jan Kabili

Good stuff, but this is more for advanced Photoshop users.

Thanks for the pointer to the PPW which I'd heard about but had not looked into. The quick start guide built into the PPW 4.05 panel confused me. Today I'm going to start watching some of Dan's videos and see if there's an example or two.

The sharpening creates bad halos on Leica M files in my experience, but not on Nex7 files. I would not call it crude as it appears it involves 109 steps in the action. I prefer my own sharpening anyway ;)
