How brave to use a superwide lens for portraiture. Was there a reason for this choice? Or did it just happen to be on the camera at the time?

The lens was on the camera, I was rushing to the beach to take some sunset pics before the rain (and the closing of the roads at 7:00) when I met this guy in the parking area.
