Help me do something drastic?

Greetings,

I have an R9 kit that I have loved, but I'm considering selling it and using the proceeds for a digital solution for my M lenses (in the form of an ME, an M 240 or maybe even just a T).

Am I nuts?

What is the best way to sell off an R kit? Any suggestions? (Kit is as follows: R9/DMR, Vario Elmar 21-35, Vario Elmar f4 35-70, Vario Elmar f4 80-200, 2 batteries, various filters, telescope eyepiece, 90-degree finder.)

Thanks,

Brent

Maybe ;)

No plans to sell my R9/DMR - best camera ever and considering upgrading to use it with Novoflex CASTBAL.

"Agree about the a7II."

So, knowing I can use my R lenses on the Sony should the DMR permanently fail, makes selling the whole R kit seem . . . well . . . or, to put it another way: maybe I was NUTS to consider it? [emoji10]

Thanks for helping prevent the rash action of the mentally unstable. I think I'll give my ill-advised scheme a rest for now. You should all sleep soundly tonight.

P.S., I still have to figure out how to raise the cash for a digital M solution. 'Know anyone who wants to buy a Rollei? [emoji12]

The LeicaStore-SoHo, aka, Kurland Photo in NY City often has Rollei gear on sale so they clearly have a market for it. You can use the credit toward an M body.

Thanks James. Last time I contacted them they weren't much interested, but it's been a while. I'll give Eli a call and see what the market is these days.

Which Rollei? Rolleflex or a 6008?

Charlie,

It's a 6008i w 2 backs, Polariod back, 45-degree finder, 50mm PQ Distagon FLE, 80mm PQ Planar, 150mm PQS Sonnar, grip, filters, many batteries (mostly new).

I'm keeping the TLR,

Brent

Now if someone made an adapter plate to use the Rollei lenses on a Leica S, that would make them much more valuable. It's a real shame that MF film seems to have gone out of fashion, as the 6008 was one mean camera.

"Your sentiments are elevated and correct," and exactly agree with my own. But I understand how it happened. I'll reach for the R9/DMR before the 6008i every time. People love convenience, and even though the Rollei gives nicer images than the DMR (can I say that here?), the DMR is mighty nice, and film has become difficult to deal with (or we suddenly think so—'though we didn't seem to mind before the advent of digital).

I dream that someday I'll be doing more darkroom printing again, so I've held onto the Rollei, but maybe I should let go of that delusion.

I have used the DMR/R8, A850, M240 and now A7R with my R lenses. Unfortunately, there is no perfect R solution. My choice is now the A7R in combination with my M240 I can use both my M and R lenses. I prefer using the R lenses with the A7R as I find the higher resolution EVF to be more accurate. The longest lens I normally use with my A7R is the 180 Apo-Elmarit. I have no problem hand holding this combination and at times I have used this set-up a Gitzo Traveler as well. The A7II will be a better choice with longer lenses as it has the 5-axis stabilization feature.

A digression for Graeme. How do you get the viewfinder to magnify with the A7? I haven't figured this out from the instruction manual. Thanks.

It was slow to focus using the 10x factor through the EVF - great for mammals that stood still but I missed a lot of moving mammal and bird shots because they didn't stay still long enough! As others have found, focus peaking isn't that sharp where it matters with long telephoto lenses. I don't think the SonyA711 or the M240/MP with EVF will be any different.

Hello Dritz,

I had to go back to the instruction book and reset it all on the camera to recall all the steps, so here goes!

I switched the lever on the AF/MF/AEL button to AEL for this purpose as I don't use it for anything else and its conveniently placed to press when looking through the viewfinder.

Press Menu - use the up and down/left and right keys to

Select the second group of custom settings shown by the little cog wheel

Select group 6

Move down to select custom key settings - press OK button

Select 1

Move down to select the AEL button (or any other button available you would rather use for this function) - press OK button

Move down to select focus magnifier

Press menu button to get out of the menu.

Look through the viewfinder and try it to see if it works. Touching the shutter release resets the viewfinder to full frame.

Hope this is OK

Best wishes,

Graeme
