What can I say, it was one of those dark sunny days LOL

BTW cost was 3050usd for this copy. Circa 1983 Canadian, built in hood, perfect except a few small brassing marks on focus ring. Calibration, to my great relief, is very good.

The Bokeh is nice, however it reminds me of the 35 FLE bokeh, different from that of the 50.

what 50? Lux asph? of course it's totally different I don't know the FLE broken that well, but I seldom form opinions about a lens's bokeh until I see many many shots, since it is highly variable with backgrounds and distances.

And apertures

The 75Lux delivers very creamy mushy bokeh as opposed to lenses like the 75APO that render very neutral backgrounds

Each has its charm and purpose, it's upto the artist to make use of the characteristic

Nice shots uhoh, keep em coming and spread the 75Lux lovin

Well said, sir.

Sometimes we are so fixed on WO character we overlook the many moods of a great lens. Since I shoot a lot of landscapes, f/11 is often the most important aperture, and performance there is highly variable. It took quite a while to realize what a true phenom the 28 cron is, with unique WO performance and off the chart clarity at f/11, better than, for example, the great ZM 35/2, which is no slouch stopped down.

Here is the 75lux at f/16:

a bit dark, sry, but nice dof :) I haven't peeped it yet, but it looks to be pretty crisp.

A few with my 75 lux, showing the rendering at various distances, must pop her back on, I've been shooting under 35 for too long

I have a new version of 50 lux, but since i received the 75, i am wondering if i should even keep the 50. Anything the 50 does, the 75 does better. I have a 35 cron, so maybe the 50 is not necessary.

I think the 75 lux is really amazing, glad i bought instead of noctilux

Nice shots. The third one looks like typical M9 tungsten low light shot, though.

  • 2 weeks later...

I couldn't get along with the severe back focus of my copy of this lens, so I sold it. (I realise I could have had it adjusted, but I got in a humph about it :D)

Then this week I saw my local crack (Leica) dealer had a very fine copy in stock, and I bought it. Accurate focus, and I love the rendering. My other lenses are now all modern ASPH ones, so the difference in look, to my eyes, was quite striking. Nice to have another flavour to play with.

Curiously the difference in serial number between my previous 1993 copy and this one is 32 copies.

Been offered one EX+ for US$3150. Is that a good price? I haven't a clue.

About the cost of a second hand 75 APO (maybe a few hundred more).

- optical/mechanical/cosmetic condition?

- serial number/made in Japan or Germany (this influences the price)

- packaging/filters/6bit coding/caps and other accessories

The price is not bad, just take the aforementioned criteria into consideration too

Made in Japan ? Surely you mean Canada

Made in Canada, circa 1983--early v2 but 6-bit encoded. Clean glass (as best as I can tell) and light wear on the barrel. No accessories beyond front and rear caps.

IME not a bad price. I paid £1,800 ($2,720) for my circa 1987 Canadian v2 plus €400 for CLA and encoding by Leica ($450).
