Lundberg Posted December 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently picked up this M9 and every time i shoot DNG then theses red, yellow whatever color appear in random places horizontally across the image. Whenever i shoot JPEG then they are all gone and there is no issue. I have attached some JPEG which where converted from DNG where you can see my issue. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Hi Lundberg, Take a look here Leica M9 stripes of yellow, blue green on image. Help pleas!!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
otto.f Posted December 23, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2014 You see it on the M9-screen too, or only in your raw-converter?
Lundberg Posted December 23, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted December 23, 2014 In some of the worst cases I see the lines on the M9 screen. When i took 20 then 1 had lines on m9 screen. When i opened all up on the computer then there were lines on every single image placed differently
Lundberg Posted December 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted December 23, 2014 Whatever ISO setting i shoot then i get these stripes messing up my picture. I have tried to reset, format card every thing but it just won't go away. Now I am just shooting JPEG as it works just fine there. I have never seen anyone else have this problem. What is wrong with this Leica??
Lenshacker Posted December 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 23, 2014 The image shown on the M9 screen is the small, embedded JPEG in the DNG file- so it is not full-resolution and could have interpolated over the error. The lines go across the entire frame, "bad pixels" would usually go across 1/2 of the frame at most as the sensor is made of two halves. I'm thinking it is some sort of memory problem or data transfer problem? Have you tried testing the camera using both DNG-8 (compressed) and DNG-16? Does the position of the lines change? Lundberg Posted December 24, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted December 24, 2014 Thank you for the help. Yes I have tried both the compressed and uncompressed DNG format. Both of them show lines which are places very unique for every picture. It makes a lot of sens that the card should be the issue. My second problem is that the camera keep freezing up. I have to remove the battery and format the card to get it to work properly again. There are several times where i only get half of the images beacuse the card can't load it or something. These issues happened when I was shooting 18 mp images. I am now shooting 10 mp JPEG without any issue of freezing. Only when I am a bit to fast and can't wait for the red light to stop. I am using a Sharpen 32 gb SDHC card. 60 mb/s. It could be very likely that all of my problems come from this card. I would very much like to know if the camera is 100% okay or if I should send it to Leica for repair. I am going to try another SD card as soon as I can find one. Thank for the help
otto.f Posted December 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted December 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) You could use SDFormatter to see if this helps, just google it and download free and format your card. Some people found that this helps to shorten startup time for the M240 (others not). I have very good experience with Lexar, actually better than Sandisk
k-hawinkler Posted December 24, 2014 Share #8 Posted December 24, 2014 Unless your memory card is at fault, your M9 may have developed an electronic failure and needs to be repaired. BTW, which firmware version does the camera have? With regards to M9 and memory cards/power/voltage issues, please search this forum for "Panasonic Gold". There is lots of information there. Good luck!
jaapv Posted December 24, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 24, 2014 This is clearly a memory/writing error. Change the SD card, if the problem persists try updating the firmwarre, if still, send to Wetzlar.
Lundberg Posted December 24, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted December 24, 2014 Thank you very much everyone for the help! I should be using the latest firmware - 1.196. Hope that this is just at card issue. I will go try a card in the following days. I really have no idea what card is best for the M9. If you have any advice for this then that would be very helpful. If you know any sites about this then please link.
Lenshacker Posted December 24, 2014 Share #11 Posted December 24, 2014 I prefer 8GByte 4x PNY and SanDisk cards. This is a case were slower is better, with "better" defined as more reliable.
lm_user Posted December 24, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 24, 2014 I saw similar lines with a bad USB port on my computer. Issue may not be camera or card. I agree with Jaapv, looks like a read / write issue
lucerne Posted December 24, 2014 Share #13 Posted December 24, 2014 More information required! To download your files do you connect your camera directly to your computer OR do you remove the card and put it into a card reader, or put it directly into the SD card slot? Lundberg Posted December 25, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted December 25, 2014 I connect the camera directly to the computer. I Never remove the SD card.
otto.f Posted December 25, 2014 Share #15 Posted December 25, 2014 I connect the camera directly to the computer. I Never remove the SD card. Time to do that and look what happens if you let it read out by cardreader (before you send it for you don't know how long to Wetzlar)
lucerne Posted December 25, 2014 Share #16 Posted December 25, 2014 I connect the camera directly to the computer. I Never remove the SD card. You now need to check the images on the card via a card reader or slipped into your SD card slot on your laptop if you use one. I'm also assuming that you haven't used a different card and shot some fresh images to see if the problems remain. If you don't have a card reader or slot, then at least repeat the test on a new card. I'm convinced it's the card. Never heard of that brand. Stick to known brands. I use Sandisk and Lexar. 45mb/sec is fine.
CheshireCat Posted December 25, 2014 Share #17 Posted December 25, 2014 A common problem: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/348480-bizarre-changes-leica-dng.html Note that if the M240 DNG compression is enabled, it gets much worse, as in the cited thread. lm_user Posted December 25, 2014 Share #18 Posted December 25, 2014 Time to do that and look what happens if you let it read out by cardreader (before you send it for you don't know how long to Wetzlar) Agreef I had horizontal lines like you when reading files through the camera and bad sub port. Works fine on another computer vi almost sent camera back for no reason
