BjarniM Posted December 20, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted December 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) If i were to buy a factory new Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH, are there any differences in the optical quality when the lens was made? Â Is a lens manufactured in 2013 better optically than a lens that was manufactured in 1996? Â Has Leica been doing some improvements with the Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH over the years it has been on the market, or is a lens from 2013 totally unchanged from the first series from 1996? colonel Posted December 21, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted December 21, 2014 Lenses manufactured since digital (M8) are made to a finer tolerance in terms of focus, otherwise unchanged. Mostly doesn't make any difference. I had to have a newish Summicron adjusted once. Rgds
BjarniM Posted December 21, 2014 Author Share #4  Posted December 21, 2014 @Ict: Thanks  @colonel: Ok, thanks.  From what you're saying there isn't any diffference in the optical quality for the images so a newer model does not have advantages over an older from 1996, right? Jeff S Posted December 21, 2014 Share #5  Posted December 21, 2014 As long as condition presents no problems, you should be fine. Always a good idea to use/test any lens to ensure it's performing to specs, even new ones….just read some posts here regarding the 50 APO Summicron. Lens samples can vary, not generally age based.  Jeff
