there are 3 of us with custom silver chrome MM's with top plate engraving who managed to get Leica to swap black for M-P silver bodywork ....... then the rush to make M240's started and this option vanished ......

This is interesting...

"Also, Leica Japan will start offering a classic logo stamp service to the owners of Leica M Monochrome or Leica M-E on March 1. They will add their logo on the camera's top cover"

I wonder if you could send them a camera to have it done?

If this is a 'while you wait' service (unlikely I guess) then I may request it next time I am over there :)

A 'stamp service'? That brings to mind an image of a huge gentleman with bulging forearms in a dimly lit forge swinging a club hammer with juddering force onto a stamp to leave a permanent intaglio in the top plate. Hopefully it's my misinterpretation.:o

Yes that's a misinterpretation. They will actually draw the logo on a postage stamp of your choosing....

Hmmm, it appears that akihabaranews is a bit behind the curve. They say the M/M was released in August 2014. According to dpreview the press release from Leica announcing the M/M was dated May 10, 2012 ( Leica announces M-Monochrom black-and-white 18MP rangefinder : Digital Photography Review ).

I doubt that The engraving on my MM was not even half that. Admittedly two years ago and in Solms.

I was mainly being silly JAAP, however it's useful to know what the actual cost is . Do they need to keep the camera for a long time or can it be done fairly quickly? I am in Frankfurt a lot and it occurred to me that I could perhaps preorder a new top plate engraved, and then have them switch it over a day or two at the factory?

My custom silver chrome came with a 10% premium ....... which is extortionate when you consider they only pinched some parts from the M9-P production line and swapped them for the black bits .....

....... and it only took them 12 weeks ...... and that was with a fair amount of prodding and finally direct intervention from Leica Mayfair.....

....... but I have now come to the reluctant acceptance that nothing with Leica is quick or cheap and don't get worked up about it anymore .......:o
