sub772 Posted January 17, 2015 Share #21 Â Posted January 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had the same issue, what I was able to figure out after troubleshooting the problem. As long as the lens detection setting is set to off. If I set it to auto or manual, I would get random blank images, since the manual setting isn't really off just an override of the auto setting. I think the issue has to do with the sensitivity of the 6 bit reader, lens body Mount and lens mount.
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hi sub772, Take a look here Pitch-Black Photos?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
photogyric Posted March 7, 2015 Share #22 Â Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) I also have pitch black photos. Restarting the body several times seems to fix it and then it comes back again. My observation so far is that it never happens indoors, only outside. The weather in London is around +10 degrees C, so wondering if it could be anything to do with the ambient temperature. Steve Ricoh Posted April 27, 2016 Share #27 Â Posted April 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some really funny answers here, obviously less funny if your camera misbehaves! Â Now I've read this thread, I feel I'm reasonably armed to respond to Leica if they claim they haven't heard of the fault when they receive my 6 month old M240 for investigation / repair for the same issue. dem331 Posted April 28, 2016 Share #30 Â Posted April 28, 2016 This also happened to me in London- but it can't be the weather as suggested, I thought. Reading through the thread I realise that the day before I had bought a new battery and was using it. It never struck me that the battery would have a run-in period! This was a month ago and problem has not resurfaced, so this seems to be one possible explanation.

Maybe, however in my case (M240) it happens with a freshly charged battery, and I've tried alternative SD cards; the firmware is also the latest version. It's the nature of an intermittent problem, you change one of the variables, eg the battery, and hope it's fixed. It can be a placebo effect, but not for the camera. Olsen Posted April 28, 2016 Share #32  Posted April 28, 2016 I suspect that 'black frames' is the same problem as I experience as 'white frames'. Our cameras does no not react quick enough to light change and to set the exposure correctly. Steve Ricoh Posted April 28, 2016 Share #33  Posted April 28, 2016 Regarding the black frame issue, it is my experience that the shutter makes a totally different sound when it occurs, as though it has not tripped successfully. Anyway, my camera is on its way back to Germany, together with the SD card containing a sample black frame.
Farel Posted May 25, 2018 Share #34 Â Posted May 25, 2018 Hello to everyone, does any of you figure it out this problem ? does Leica taking the shutter under guaranty ? it is impossible to have someone qualify enough in my country to answer my question. enboe Posted May 27, 2018 Share #35 Â Posted May 27, 2018 I had similar gremlins with the original M8 and more recently the M10. Â Some causes and cures: Â 1. Â For the M8 series, I found the camera finicky for SD card brand and speed. Â Delkin e-Film class 6 cards worked flawlessly. Â Other cards would drop a shot here and there, although later firmware mostly addressed this. 2. Â For the M10, the camera needs a moment, really only 1-2 seconds, to wake up and for the meter to stabilize if used on "A". Â A quick look at the selected speed in the viewfinder window will let you know if it's ready or not. Â I concur that bad SD cards, weak batteries, and bad circuit cards in the camera all could share the same symptoms. Â Sounds like you're good to go now. jto555 Posted May 29, 2018 Share #36  Posted May 29, 2018  If it happens again, perhaps a check at CS will discover some error codes on the shutter side of things. So far with 2 M240 I have had 2 shutters replaced just within the last month.    I'm use two boddies and I have had four shutters replaced! One is in for a 5th replacement now. I knew instantly that I had a black frame by the shutter noise. Chimping would confirm.
Tony Chan Posted June 18, 2018 Share #40 Â Posted June 18, 2018 Please advise the repair cost and the address and contact in Germany for the M240 repair, my camera is suffering from: shutter-display-card-circuit malfunction problem I believe.
