Robert_M Posted November 20, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2014 The figure 8 plug on this charger (and most other chargers) conforms to standard IEC 60320. C7 is the female plug for that figure 8 plug on the charger. These short adapter plugs are readily available on Amazon in both straight and right angle forms. Try a search for IEC C7. You can get the mains plug end (male) in most standards needed for travel (ie, US 2 and 3 prong, Euro 2 and 3 prong, UK 3 prong). Prices are $3 to $15 depending on the supplier and model. I've stocked several US and Euro 2 prongs to make travel easy without needing to carry the inconvenient long cord supplied with that charger. k-hawinkler Posted November 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 20, 2014 Thanks Robert. Is there a similar recommendation for South America? TIA.

Regards, Yes I know they are but the beauty is that of you have a MacBook or an iphone then you already have the plug you require. For international travel I use a PlugBug for my MBP and then I have every adaptor I need for my MBP and my Leica figure-8 charger. http://www.twelvesouth.com/product/plugbug
Edward Louis Marit Posted November 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2014 I don't understand how an iPhone plug can connect to the leica charger. Or a MacBook plug. I am North America based so perhaps that is the difference.when I travel I have to bring a bulky adapter, plus the apple plugs, plus the Leica charger. All MacBooks, ipods and iphones up until; and including, the iphone 5 have the plug section of the charger which is removable. This is so that the same charger is international. Have a look at yours - pull it apart and you will see it will fit the 8-plug on your Leica charger. Easy
jaapv Posted November 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 20, 2014 Errr... No. The flat small iPhone charger is in one piece. But indeed, all figure-eight plug adapters fit all figure-eight sockets, including the Leica charger and Mac "brick" charger. And virtually all chargers nowadays accept a 110 V to 240 Volt input, so you do not need a 240-110 transformer either.
john neal Posted November 20, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2014 Jaap, I have the same small monobloc charger as you with every iPhone I bought since the 3 - I think our US cousins have had a better deal with a much more robust device. I just bought an iPad, and now have the charging device shown in the original post, although it still outputs to a USB port (probably something to do with the iPad and MacBooks all having virtually the same spec worldwide, while the phones are more likely to spec'd to suit the local network operator). Robert_M Posted November 20, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 20, 2014 Thanks Robert. Is there a similar recommendation for South America? TIA. K-H, I've gotten by most places (including most of South America) with the US 2 prong and Euro 2 prong versions shown in the attached pics. For small camera charger bricks and various laptop bricks, I've preferred these right angle plug versions (rather than the straight) so that the whole thing doesn't hang so far out and then fall out of the socket in the wall. For other plug types, I've just gone with an adapter. R Welcome, dear visitor! Easy My apple devices have a long cord with the apple device plug at one end and a usb plug at the other end. The usb plug connects to a square plastic plug with prongs for a 120v wall outlet. There is no connector for figure 8 plugs whatsoever. Nor does it look anything like the plug in the OP's picture. Clearly apple chargers are very different in Europe. Perhaps I will have a look at them at an Apple Store since I am in eu this week, the European plugs look better and more compact to me.
ldhrads Posted November 20, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 20, 2014 I tried this trick a while back. With the US model Macbook adapter, the connection is very tight and hard to get into a wall outlet. The European works better because there is an offset. The amazon sold right angle plug works better in the US.
Edward Louis Marit Posted November 20, 2014 Share #16 Posted November 20, 2014 The one for my phone ( iPhone 5) does not pull apart. It is small and one piece. The one from my very old first generation iPad is larger and appears to have a seam indicating that the plug is detachable from the transformer, however no matter how hard I tried the plug would not come off. I don't want to force it because if I break it then I will not be able to charge my iPad, although I suppose I could swap out the smaller one from the iPhone as they both have USB connectors for the cable. The plug portion slides off - it doesn't pull directly off of the rest of the plug's body. Fold the two prongs into the body of the charger, then push the smaller portion off of the body in the direction of the folded prongs. This is the same process used for the power adapters for MacBooks, etc.
bocaburger Posted November 21, 2014 Share #18 Posted November 21, 2014 All the iPhones and iPads we've had (I'm in the US) have come with a male USB cable and an AC adapter with female USB port. My Canon charger, along with all the ones I've had with Panny and Leica compacts have a fold-out USA 2-prong plug. When traveling though I have always carried an extension cord, the reason being that if the outlet in the hotel room is under the desk or behind a chair, I have on a few occasions almost forgotten the charger. Having it up on a desk or table in plain sight solves that for me.
Guest jvansmit Posted November 21, 2014 Share #19 Posted November 21, 2014 there's an Apple World Travel Adapter Kit available at any Apple store and online. It fits any figure 8 charger. The price is $39 (here in Hong Kong).
