DigitalHeMan Posted February 19, 2015 Share #41 Posted February 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got that Qm2 from your dealer Simon. at least I think, if it's the place where just missed each other lately. It's a great camera. One can see nothing on the outside. Although it has been back once for sensor problems in film mode, but come to think of it, my M9 was also back to Leica and wasn't a Qm2. The way I think, it's just a camera which has been inspected and serviced better than the rest. The QM sign is very small on the box. ( not the Leica, but the paper coverbox ) Sounds like it, enjoy
Advertisement Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Hi DigitalHeMan, Take a look here Leica items not meeting inspections , then discounted to dealers. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
r7photo Posted February 20, 2015 Author Share #42 Posted February 20, 2015 Demonstration ? Camera appears never touched but does this mean was used?
DigitalHeMan Posted February 20, 2015 Share #43 Posted February 20, 2015 Demonstration ? Camera appears never touched but does this mean was used? My 'demonstration' M-E had not been used when I bought it two years ago. My dealer told me it has sat in a display case at Photokina. A better translation for Ausstellung is exhibition rather than demonstration, so yours may have. A similar history.

rscheffler Posted February 20, 2015 Share #45 Posted February 20, 2015 Ausstellung could also mean display, as in a display model. I would think with Leica and the kind of customers attracted to Leica, that a display model likely won't be mishandled. I also bought a 'demo' M about a year ago. Was very appreciative of the savings at that time and the camera has been fine, other than suffering some of my abuses.
Tytan Posted February 28, 2015 Share #46 Posted February 28, 2015 I recently bought a 50mm Summilux ASPH lens from a Leica dealer, and it had the white sticker with red German writings on it ... the sticker was on the outside white box and also on the actual silver box. I wasn't given any particular discount for the lens, nor did the dealer say anything about it being a 'demo' or QM2 piece. Should i ask the dealer about this? By the way, do QM2 pieces fetch a lower re-sale value?
james.liam Posted February 28, 2015 Share #47 Posted February 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) By the way, do QM2 pieces fetch a lower re-sale value? Once it's out in the market, there is no way of determining this. Besides, good luck at finding the reason it was graded QM2; usually a subtle cosmetic issue that may be indistinguishable from a scuff due to regular use. rafael_macia Posted March 2, 2015 Share #48 Posted March 2, 2015 Here in the US Leica USA marks a Demo camera body, (I know from personal experience buying a Leica M-P 240). The demo body's outer box has a red "O" stamped on it. Also, next to the serial number on the inner box is the same red "O". This indicates a Leica certified "Demo". It may have been used at a photo show to allow people to handle the camera. There may be a cosmetic scuff, or the item may have been returned for a mechanical issue. The issue was looked at by Leica. Then hopefully adjusted by Leica, ...."hopefully" being the important aspect. In any event, Leica then certifies it Ok and sends back out for sale as a Demo. Refurbished would be a good word to describe Demo products. I think, (and this is only my take on this), Leica kind of, rewards dealers with Demo stuff. They can then give their customers a good deal ... which is always appreciated. Since there is a Leica warrantee on the demo, body or lens, (sometimes the warrantee is for less time coverage), there is still ample opportunity to check out the demo, and see that all is well. I would buy a demo, as I have in the past, if it afforded a real savings.

By the way, do QM2 pieces fetch a lower re-sale value? I think you have to aske your dealer about this. He is getting these QM2 for less than the normal price. Although the lens comes with a warranty of two years, he should have told you about the QM2 and let you decide if you wanted to buy it for the "normal" price. You said that you bought it recently. What was the price of the lens? Maybe it was the price before the new price increase?
Bill W Posted March 2, 2015 Share #50 Posted March 2, 2015 My 24 Elmar M was a "demo" with the red circle stickers on the outer and inner boxes. It was packaged like a new lens except it came with only a 1 year warranty. You cannot tell it from a new one. It was a VERY good deal as far as pricing.
