Leica items not meeting inspections , then discounted to dealers

Any comments on qm2 lenses?

I have a QM2 50mm Summilux ASPH in chrome. It's cosmetically flawless. I can't find anything wrong optically either. Evenly sharp across the field, no decentering, etc.

My old M9-P was a QM2 as well...never any problems while I owned it (about 2 years).

I had a poor experience with a 'QM2' Monochrom, it had substantial issues with alignment and focus. Returned it for a refund. Would not consider a QM2 camera again.

Presumably if it was QM2 you had a substantial discount, and the camera was under full warranty. Why not just return it for these things to be adjusted - it's a simple procedure to do that.

I wouldn't dismiss QM2 items on that basis - even 'non-QM2 new cameras are not unknown to have the odd R/F issue.

I purchased my 240 as a QM2 here in the US. The dealer told me that it had a cosmetic imperfection, that for the life of me I have been unable to find. The camera was sold at a very serious discount. We're talking a solid 20%. Camera came with warranty.

Many years ago I purchased a QM2 M7 and R6.2 from a US dealer. Both cameras came from Leica NJ and had been discounted due to some cosmetic blemish, that was rendered irrelevant after a week of shooting. I seem to remember that the R6.2 had a tiny 3mm hairline scratch near the prism block, but I never found anything on the M7. I still have the cameras and they work flawlessly.

My original M6ttl from the late 1990's may have also been a QM2 or demo unit. I got it new from a dealer at 30% off with the full warranty. There was a tiny ding on the baseplate. I still have that camera and it's been everywhere with me since.

I have also purchased a Summicron-M 2/50, Summilux-M 1.4/50 and 1.4 Summilux-M ASPH this way. Never did find a flaw with any of them. I sold the Summicron a few years back and still shoot both the 35/50 Lux.

I have a sneaking suspicion that some of these cameras are 'display case' samples that were used at trade shows, Leica Days etc.

I have no complaints.

[...] Opening boxes isn't just about looking at the camera or lens, it is about checking the packing and things like are all the leaflets included etc.

Yet how little attention is given to unboxing videos. They should be accompanied by powerful music, Sturm und Drang would be good. For the opening of the Monochrom, I would prefer Ride of the Valkyries.

The camera was manufactures on 3/5/14....

So already nearly one year old. Not that it matters; but I guess this one might have been recycled through the system for some unspecified reasons. Enjoy your new camera.

Actually I think that Leica controls the distribution of QM2 items pretty closely. My dealer told me that they get a maximum of one per quarter (or per year, can't remember) as they are shared across authorized dealers. They are allowed to use these items as a way of passing on discounts to customers, and all are fully warrantied.

I got that Qm2 from your dealer Simon.:):D at least I think, if it's the place where just missed each other lately. It's a great camera. One can see nothing on the outside. Although it has been back once for sensor problems in film mode, but come to think of it, my M9 was also back to Leica and wasn't a Qm2. The way I think, it's just a camera which has been inspected and serviced better than the rest. The QM sign is very small on the box. ( not the Leica, but the paper coverbox )

Sturm und Drang is good enough for for me. Here is Hamburger with a nice bite!;):
