jaapv Posted November 4, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted November 4, 2014 Imo it is not a debate any more. It is a run race. Those that like film shoot film those that like digital shoot digital. That is all there is to it.

MarkP Posted November 4, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted November 4, 2014 ...and those that like neither shoot photographers... Â Â I had thought of all the permutations of +/-, -/+, +/+, but couldn't think of a -/- comment. Well done!
philipus Posted November 8, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted November 8, 2014 I know where I stand on this. Â I don't understand the unequal treatment of the film and digital images. The film images are left to the whims of a (quite incompetent) lab scanner operator but the digital images are edited by Kossik himself. I also fail to understand why, if he decided to edit the digital images by using Levels and Noise Ninja, he didn't extend the same treatment to the film scans. Â He also made mistakes in shooting the images, esp. regarding exposure. I would have expected a more even exposure between the systems, which could easily have been achieved if he had used a light meter (even in app form since he had the phone with him). Â Since the issue of "resolving power" appears to be of prime interest to him, I am wondering why he didn't take better care to focus the F4, see in particular the glacier and boat images. It would also have been useful to know where in the frame the crops are from, centre, corner etc. Â All-in-all, as interesting as this was to read and as much as I appreciate the time taken to make a cross-system comparison like this, it is unfortunate that he didn't execute the test better. Digital Study  i think maybe he had to compare with a more modern DSRL , maybe a FF sensor i think a 36mp sensor will outresolve mamiya Medium format camera
250swb Posted November 8, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted November 8, 2014 "Well, am I going to toss my digital camera and use my Mamiya RB67 exclusively? Certainly not. The images produced by the Mamiya RB67 are better but it is a manual focus camera, its heavy, it has a very limited shutter speed range, and the lens are not that fast." Â I can't help but think that in the quest to find the best image quality he got the answer he least wanted. But he does know where his priorities lie, and getting the photograph should top IQ for IQ's sake any day of the week, although once again, I can't help but wonder what he would have done in the days before digital or Auto Focus? bocaburger Posted November 8, 2014 Share #9 Â Posted November 8, 2014 If I could still pop over to the local camera store for a few rolls of my favorite film, and then get it developed and printed by my local pro lab, all for a reasonable cost, I would still be doing it, I would never have bought a digital camera.
