Tower of London Poppies.

This is an art installation raising awareness of the British soldiers who gave their lives in World War 1 on the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the war. Each poppy is made of ceramic material and there are 888,246 poppies entirely filling the Tower's moat, one for each British soldier who died. The installation will be dismantled following the service to commemorate the end of WW1 at 11 am on 11/11. It is difficult to put into words just how massive and moving the art installation is when seen at first hand.

What looks like a piece of hose is actually the first part of a tunnel which undercuts part of a hill. Since the terrain is unstable and still settling after several years, they have decided not to cover that part of the tube just now until the ground has settled, hence the tunnel above ground.
