biglou Posted November 1, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted November 1, 2014 Good, I got one overnight in Paris, plenty of them probably now. I would be very grateful if someone buying one or having bought recently could tell about the serial number of this batch. Thank you... Â Mine is 429041x

fotofool Posted November 1, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted November 1, 2014 I've been on a waiting list with one of the U.S. Leica stores since just before the price increase. Four months? I'd rather wait than pay the new price. But it is mildly annoying they are showing up on the shelves of retailers with no back log while official Leica stores can't fill old orders. biglou Posted November 2, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted November 2, 2014 " Hello, yes I got one last week and the serial number is 4235363 " Â Â Hello, I don't understand how they do, so far from my own : 429041x I thought they reserved numbers for production of a batch. Thanks so much anyway

biglou Posted November 2, 2014 Share #12 Â Posted November 2, 2014 I received mine in May. No. 4234.... Â Thanks, Mine probably comes from a new batch starting by 4290... I was so surprised to have in two days. Production probably met now with demand and old orders are fulfilled. Thanks all, i could not yet find a defect on mine wich i think is a kind of miracle, only thing i would much prefer a longer course of distance setting ring. Best regards
Numbers Posted November 3, 2014 Share #13 Â Posted November 3, 2014 4296xxx early august. I dont think it is something to speculate too much about.
Saad Posted November 3, 2014 Share #14 Â Posted November 3, 2014 I ordered mine in July 2012 and got it at the old price. Is the SN 429xx at the new price? Maybe the old orders being fulfilled start with 423x.
biglou Posted November 3, 2014 Share #15 Â Posted November 3, 2014 Yes, new price unfortunately, i called and had the lens two days later. Funny one delivered in august has a higher serial number since i thought the lens was backordered and old reservations served with new lenses coming from currenttly built batch. Much depend on countries and importers, anyway i lack the clue and as Numbers says if the lens is fine why bother...
Bill W Posted November 3, 2014 Share #16 Â Posted November 3, 2014 There are probably more around. I got a call from my local dealer that they had one and was I still interested. I told them that I had bought one from them a year and a half ago. They went to the next one on their list. I must have signed up at their website to notify me in it came in stock. I was able to get mine while at the store and just by chance they had one "in the back" that another customer decided to not take.

biglou Posted November 4, 2014 Share #18 Â Posted November 4, 2014 Mike, The 429041X was built on 2014/10/14 (thanks to you, found this data on the test certificate) and i left the store with it nine days later, so very recent production indeed. My curiosity is satisfied, time now for photography...
Mantice Posted November 4, 2014 Share #19 Â Posted November 4, 2014 I think Saad is currect the 423xxxx is probably fulfilling old price, as the one I got this summer. Â I tend to guess 423xxxx is in the zone of mixing new material and usable parts from old fare-prone returned lenses. Mine has some sign of glass-cleaning, especially the sticking fibers at the edge when new from B&H but I don't think I'm going to bother with it. LeicaPassion Posted November 4, 2014 Author Share #20 Â Posted November 4, 2014 It is my understanding that the flare - prone lenses were returned to Leica by owners (some chose not to do so), modified and sent back to the owners. Accordingly Leica would only have defective parts from those lenses. It would make no sense to use them in a new production batch.
