jaapv Posted January 9, 2015 Share #101 Posted January 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe. Mind that I never said anything about the 240. It is the only DigiM I have that is not engraved with my name...
Advertisement Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hi jaapv, Take a look here New Monochrom ?? [merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted January 9, 2015 Share #102 Posted January 9, 2015 The commitment comes from money on the table, not a signature. Jeff
jaapv Posted January 9, 2015 Share #103 Posted January 9, 2015 Hmmm.. Marking my territory by having it engraved does show commitment, I'd say;)
Jeff S Posted January 9, 2015 Share #104 Posted January 9, 2015 Sure….after you've spent your hard earned money. Lots of old people regret tattoos, too. Remember…you have a track record of saying you'll never buy this or that…and then…. Jeff
FrozenInTime Posted January 9, 2015 Share #105 Posted January 9, 2015 Is Monochrome to remain a Leica only niche ? I'm surprised no one else has jumped on the bandwagon with a mainline camera - everyone else in 135 would presumably be CMOS based. Maybe CP+ will reveal something before Leica and the MM-
jaapv Posted January 10, 2015 Share #106 Posted January 10, 2015 A maker selling tens of thousands of cameras a week interested in selling a few thousand a year? Not a very convincing business case.

They are all still around, except for my backup M8.
jmr237 Posted January 10, 2015 Share #108 Posted January 10, 2015 Here's a question. If and when Leica replaces the Monochrom, will they discontinue the current model? Or will they rebrand it into some type of "Monochrom M-E"?
Jeff S Posted January 10, 2015 Share #109 Posted January 10, 2015 They are all still around, except for my backup M8. Still have my back-up M8.2. Don't ever see a need for 2 MMs….my M or M8.2 would provide fine enough b/w for any back-up purpose. Jeff
jaapv Posted January 10, 2015 Share #110 Posted January 10, 2015 Here's a question. If and when Leica replaces the Monochrom, will they discontinue the current model? One could ask oneself whether it would make sense to have two models in such a low-volume niche.

Jeff Well, there is your answer. I agree, and I will not consider selling any of my older Ms. As a matter of fact I gave my M8, which I really didn’t use at all any more to my brother as a loaner-forever. Paulus Posted January 10, 2015 Author Share #113 Posted January 10, 2015 Personally I wouldn't want a CMOS MM. I think that except for the glass issue, the current model is perfect. Just for the sake of argument. Do you also own a M240 to compare the two bodies? So far I think, that users of M240 + MM bodies have spoken more positive about the M240 body. I'm not talking about the sensor and it capacity, I have no problems with that, but I really believe the " perfect" MM should be in a more solid body. One could ask oneself whether it would make sense to have two models in such a low-volume niche. I agree. I think it's unlikely they will create a "Monochrom M-E"" that would sell alongside the new MM. My guess is that, once the new MM is released, they will offer a discount ($750?) on the current MM to move out the remaining inventory.
mjh Posted January 10, 2015 Share #118 Posted January 10, 2015 Here's a question. If and when Leica replaces the Monochrom, will they discontinue the current model? Or will they rebrand it into some type of "Monochrom M-E"? I don’t really know but I don’t think it makes much sense to have two monochrome models in Leica’s portfolio. Most likely Leica would switch production from the old MM to the new one so that once a new model becomes available the remaining inventory of the current model will ideally be zero.
