I don’t think so (and neither do I hope so).

Nor do I. Altough it might appeal to a small group of users and I would look at it longingly from a distance, I doubt sales would exceed a hundred worldwide, making the camera not very attractive from a turnover point of view. There could be a special edition I suppose, though. -At a price :(

How about we all go out and take some photographs and stop obsessing about what isn't? My MM is working as it should today, I am only alive in the present moment.

Cheers!

Wilfredo - While I agree with you at a certain level, plunking down $8K for anything is a big deal to most people. With the MM now about 2 years old, I sympathize with the concerns that some prospective MM owners may have regarding whether it is cost-beneficial to wait just a little longer before making the plunge. This all goes to your point, which is that time is precious.

With regard to making an MM without a screen, given the hyper-sensitivity to blowing highlights (particularly relative to film and even to other digital Ms), being able to check this in the screen is really critical to confirming exposure, which in a scene with bright highlights, deviates a little from the traditional "sunny 16" scale.

A camera without screen does not mean that the user has no means to check the shots via a smartphone for instance.

But it avoids chimping and pushes also the designer to really focus on true functionality. (which may be obviously dependent of the type of users)

Two points...

How do you propose to synchronise camera with basic electronic interface (no menu accessible via rear LCD) with a smart phone?

Possession of smart phone is not mandatory.

Isn't that rather contradictory with a minimalist, back-to-basics camera?

I'd quite like a hybrid monochrome-M60 ....with an ISO dial on the back like the M60 and also an inward facing display that can be flipped down when needed

It would add another couple of mm to the thickness of the camera....:(

I did not suggest that the camera should have basic electronics. Wi-fi memory cards is a possibility, or on camera wi-fi is now available on many cheaper models. Please note that it would be only a feature for people not comfortable to wait to see their pictures on a screen.

While I am still fairly confident that a CMOS-based successor to the M Monochrom will come some day, I have no idea when that will be and what the camera will look like. And I guess that if a press release was imminent then I would know by this time.

Well, if Michael doesn't know, and i haven't seen one, then I guess it's going to be a while at least.

Surely you two have non disclosure agreements so even if you had one in your bag this minute you would not be able to say.:D

It reminds me of the statement Stefan Danials made about 2 months before the launch of the M9. Something on the lines of Leica where still some way from solving the problems of a full size sensor. I think the only thing they where woried about solving was shifting the last of the M8.2 ,s. (grin)

I wouldn't be surprised, even if Michael and Jono are suggesting otherwise. Leica will probably be quite keen to move on from the CCD Monochrom sooner rather than later.

A consideration that may well bring a proposed introduction date quite a bit forward.

No, but as long as I have not I am free to admit as much. Conversely, if I knew about some new model I wouldn’t claim I did not. I would just keep silent and let others do the speculating, having a good laugh now and then.

(In any case I have never – as far as I remember – signed an NDA with Leica. While I have signed quite a few stiffly formal NDAs with various vendors over the years, these days most NDAs are informal or merely implied – more like a gentlemen’s agreement really. But then of course, honouring NDAs is part of the job, even if you no longer have to sign with your own blood and forfeit your firstborn, as you did in the good old times.)

That would make it two years forward according to your assessment in post #8. If a new model emerges in the next month or two, that will suggest to me that Leica was well ahead of your time frame, and/or they knew about the seriousness of the M9 sensor issues long before they acknowledged.
